I must have been the only fool who woke up at 4:30 AM to watch the U.S. jump out to a 3-0 lead over Portugal. No local television or sports radio even reported the score and few of the people I work with even knew (or cared) the U.S. was playing a game that day. I can't wait to watch the game vs. Korea on Monday morning @ 2:30 AM. This time I think I'll just stay awake and watch it on my deck with a few stogies and many pints of Guinness (my neighbors will love me). God bless ESPN 2!!!

Being from Philadelphia, I no longer have much to root for these days but the Phillies. So you can see why I bring up soccer. But the Padres, might as well jump on board the world cup tour too E-chick!

Okay, you supply the beer??? I'll climb aboard! Was talking with some in-laws last night. One (in her 60's) said that she never paid for booze in her life, and she was a drinker. I had to stop and think. I don't think I've ever paid for booze myself either. Not that I'm so worthy, just kind of a weird observation. So why break tradition! Could be that I've been married forever too. But I need a girly beer like Red Stripe. Something a bit lighter than Guinness. Hey JJohnson28, is that what I had with you down at ******'s Last Resort? Did I mention I hate soccer? I'll try it just for you GUV! I hate basketball too, but have 'tried' to watch the Laker's games here and there. I just don't get it. Baseball uniforms are soooo much better than the ugly basketball ones and the guys look sooo much better in them too. Not sure if I like soccer with guys prancing around in 'dolphin shorts'. Remember those? YUCK! Well anyway, I hope the US wins the World Cup and that's who I also hope you're voting for! ps...I've only smoked really great cigars, so you better have your BEST ready for me! I mean it! No dog rockets!

I'll keep a couple of my Amstel Lights on hand for you along with a few RyJ Vintages. I give the dogrockets to my wife. Sound fair enough?

Are we getting a little kinky here or what? Soccer causes wierd things to happen to normal people....I hope USA wins, but I will not get up and watch the match (is that what you call it) at 4:00 am! Charlie

Interested, but will tape the game for later viewing ... I leave too early for work to watch it real-time. My kids are all interested too, and 3 of them were pretty accomplished players themselves, but are old enough now that they're all on their own and will watch it at their own places ... there seems to be more widespread interest in this World Cup than in the past .. I gotta wonder how much of it is from people who are really into soccer and how much is just good ol' fashioned rooting for the home team, irrespective of the sport ... time will tell.

Steve, I too wonder but welcome all. For myself, I have always been involved with the game. I played Div. I in college. I am 36 and just stopped playing last year when I blew out my groin muscle (OUCH!!!!) two days before my wife gave birth to our second child. She pretty much told me that it was time to retire from playing. I still coach high school soccer and kick the ball around with them as often as possible. U-S-A...U-S-A...U-S-A...
