Would like to start a cigar club in Upstate NY and was curious if anyone had information on how to legally organize a club in order to make purchases, etc. Is it necessary to file for a Non-profit Corp? seek IRS 501 status? any help would be appreciated. thanks

I passed the cpa test in a previous life. If your objective were a true/false question on that test in terms of "This can be done", I would've answered "false".

Bake -- sorry, I re-read your thread. I'm reading between the lines and assuming the IRS reference is because you wish to do this as some type of tax-exempt entity. If so, my previous opinion rests. However, if not, then please ignore both...

Good luck anyways.

Bake-I manage a medical 501 c3 Public Charity. I had very little knowledge when I started this venture 10 years ago and several very good books on the subject. E-mail me at [email protected] and I will send you the info on the books and website info.
