I'd like to know what the cigar cognoscenti think of Drew Estate products. The guys down at the cigar store think they're a blasphemy, refusing to try them. I generally like a full bodied cigar and the Industrial Press fits that bill nicely. I love the Natural Green Hero and White Rabbit. When I want something just a bit sweet, I have a Mixed Elements. I even like the Acid 1, though the Def Sea is a bit much. So what do you think?

Personnaly I LOVE just about everything I have tried by Drew. BUT I LOVE to try new things and new experiances. I too have been met with much resistance from "Traditional smokers" who in general aree afraid to try them. The few I have convinced to try them (by handing them a stick) have admitted that they were pretty good. Most said they probably wouldn't go out of their wat to buy them themselves, but they enjoyed them. ALSO try the Sportsman's reserve... They are a traditional smoke by them and Perdomo, I was pleasently surprised with. :-)

Smoke what you like and screw everyone else's opinion. The only way to know what you like is to try a bunch of them. I enjoy an Acid once in a while, especially the Extraordinary Larry, 400 cc and Kong. Just got a couple 5-packs of Sportsman's Reserve. Will put in my 2cents after I try one. I usually prefer maduro and oscuro wrappers. Others like cammies. If we all had exactly the same taste it would mess up the bids big time, huh.

I've tried a bunch of DE's. Not every cigar in a line can be great but I've really enjoyed several of Drew cigars. The Industrial Press I think is very good. ACID's I'll smoke again are Roam, One, and 1400cc. I think the unlit scent is deceiving. Most have been flavorful smokes with just a bit of sweetness. Not a "flavored" cigar. In the Natural line the favorites at the moment are Root and 5/50's and I have a nice little stock of Sportsman's.

Just tried a Acid Roam today and thought it was an interesting smoke... slight floral scent almost like incense... slow burn... thought at first it was going to be a tough draw but pleasantly suprised at how easy the draw actually was... almost unnoticeable... interesting taste... not too robust... not too mild... just different but not objectable... would not be one of my everyday smokes but probably would try again just for a change of pace

Well... The ABOVE post is just the typical load of crap you tend to get from narrowminded people.

I am FAIRLY new to cigars, and even I knew better than to mix my Acids with my more "traditional" smokes.

AND the poster only addressed "Acid" cigars. The "Natural" line is a little closer to a traditional cigar, while the "Industrial Press" is not at all "aeromatic" (or flavored). THere are also the Sportsmans Reserve offered here that is quite nice, leather, nutty, meaty flavor... Then there is the "Ambrosia" line which is even MORE Aeromatic than the Acids, yet to me is also milder and sweeter (if that makes any sense...) And LASTLY the upcoming Re-Release of "La Veija Habana" another "Traditional" smoke. As the more openminded here have stated, try them and decide for your self. It is all about what YOU like... And in MY HUMBLE OPINION, Drew Estate offers some amazing smokes in a variety of styles across the spectrum. It is hard for me to imagine dismissing the entire line off of a couple individual smokes.
If you want to try a couple... drop me a line, i'll try and hook you up with a couple. :-)

Before you die, are you going to say "man, i was a person steadfast in my beliefs because I knew better than to try that new and different brand of cigars..."? I mean get over it already. All the people who are saying that they wouldnt try Acids because it goes against their ideas of what a cigar should be, are just friggin riddiculous. Get lives. Its only a friggin cigar guys. If I ever get to that point, shoot me please.

What gives here. BBJ says they suck. That is after he tried em, stored em, and tried again. I wouldn't call that narrowminded, I'd call that pretty open minded. Since his opinion differs from yours, this justifies you calling him narrowminded? Ya dam witch hunter, inciter of unruly mobs, lemming, schoolgirl, communist smoker of grandma's hair. To each his own.

Mean,

I totally agree with you. Thats what I'm saying. If you like it smoke it, if not then dont. At least he tried it. jreddoch was saying how the guys he spoke to, just wouldnt try em on principle. Thats lame as hell.

In many cases, cigar smokers use a blanket statement "flavored cigars are crap". That is an opinion that comes from experience more than likely outside the natural, acid, lars spectrum but includes them due to word of mouth. In those instances, hand em one, and let them decide then if grandma's hair is right for them.

I am a fan of mild but spicy and tastfull cigars. The davidoff guys here in NY advised me to try the Dirt / Natural from DE. I was amazed. I mean I never tasted a flavored cigar but that rocks. Take a Cohiba Corona Minor for instance: short, not too strong but ver tasty. Well with the Dirt, same but very different. I think it is just something for the morning !

I like plain old regular coffee w/cream & sugar but I also like strong flavored alcohols like merlots, boubons, etc...no fruity tropical stuff...but I have noticed definite flavors/aromas in the (few) cigars that I've smoked and really enjoyed them. Never tried "flavored" cigars...aren't they too flavored? Along the lines of smoking ice cream? Will anyone admit to trying or liking them? Just don't know if I should waste my time on pursuing this...I'm sooo confused...as usual

e, I gotta tell you that Rick was onto something about it being worth a price to spend an evening in your company, but if you light one of those flavored cigars, I'll be wanting to sit on your upwind side ... in other, more direct words, I don't like 'em. MrsS has tried several and likes some better than others ... the woman next door loves them, but I think her taste is suspect ... matter of individual taste I guess, but on the whole, my advise is don't bother

Mean...
I did not say HE was narrowminded... I said what he said is TYPICAL of the narrowminded. It is great that he tried them, even tried them twice, and I am sorry that he didn't like what he tried. BUT the Acid line alone has a variety of smokes and he is dismissing the WHOLE COMPANY on his experiance with perhaps a couple of one particular line. As I stated in my post they have lines that are less aeromatic and some that are not aeromatic at all. So you are going to dismiss Industrial Press because you didn't like Acid? Sounds narrowminded to me.

Pavlovian response. I imagine a repeated disfavorable experience from one manufacturer would cause fear toward trying the others. I am an advocate of the industrial press. Had a brickk two nights ago. Can I still call you a communist?

Sorry for the double... There is a HUGE diffrence between "Flavored" (Vanilla, Rum, etc.) and "Aeromatic" (Acid, Ambrosia, Naturals, Lars Tetons). Actually I don't find flavored cigars THAT bad (I KNOW I will hear it now), I also don't find them that great. The most notable thing is the flavor left on your lips after drawing from them. There are many among the Acid line that I don't enjoy, many I do. The couple Lars Tetons I smoked, I didn't like at all. That doesn't mean I will label them all crap. If someone offered me one, I would give them another chance. But again, To quote the bard "You gotta keep 'em seperated!" I don't mix my Aeromatics, My Flavored, my "Regulars" and My "Cubans" (although the last rule gets laxed as I run out of Cubans).

Comunist? Well I hope not, they'd kick me out of the Army! (Actually I don't think they can for that any more, but they would probably yank my sceurity clearance.)

The Natural Root is a very nice cigar to have along when you go to a semi-cigar friendly cocktail lounge. You all probably know the line, "Sir, as a management policy we do not prohibit the smoking of cigars in our establishment, however, if there is a complaint about the strong aroma, we'll have to ask you to put it out." The Root has a pleasant taste that even the most traditional cigar smokers will probably find acceptable and it has an aroma like a nice aromatic pipe tobacco. I've found the Green Hero to have an acceptable aroma, but virtually tasteless. Next to the Root, the Elixir 5-50 would be my second choice in the Natural line. I was gifted one of the assortment tins, and found it to be a good introduction into this line of cigars. I was in on a box split of the Industrial Press, and found them very disappointing for the relatively high price of these cigars.
