Okay, new artsy-fartsy subject. What are some of you guys' favorite movies? Some of mine are "Ran", "Fearless" "Delicatessen" and anything by John Woo, "Hard Boiled" being the finest example.

With titles like those...sounds more "fartsy" than artsy, LOL! If I only had one choice, I'd have to say my all-time-over-all-can't-do-without-quote-it-every-day-of-my-life-favorite is.......DUMB & DUMBER! Of course anything with Tom Hanks in it is to my liking. And I have a total brain fart on another fav actor...he was in Lonesome Dove, The Apostle...help me out here! I'm sure as soon as I post this, it'll hit me!

Anything with zombies, robots, mad scientists, and aliens from outer space. If it's got all four, even better.

Echick, that would be Robert Duval who played Gus in Lonesome Dove, one of my all time favorite movies! Like Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, Heat, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, any Hanks movie, Eastwood, DeNiro, Pacino (Scarface) to name a few! Charlie

One of Robert Duvall's best performances was in "The Great Santini". No more comments on my flatulence, e-chick!

I'll toss three of my favorites into the ring:

Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1926, B&W/Silent, the version scored by Georgio Moroder), a film that was years ahead of its time. I've seen it at least 20 times in the last 20 years.

No Man's Land (Foreign, Subtitled), about a Bosnian and a Serb stranded in a trench together -- poignantly underscores both the futility and the absurdity of war.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the epitome of the spaghetti western, IMHO.

Thanks BMW & char5353...I tried for hours to recall Robert Duval's name...terrible to admire someone so much and totally blank out on his name! I also have to agree with char5353's selections...just didn't want to think that hard! And speaking of hard (LOL), I also have to agree with X!

I like the movie "The Time Machine" with Rod Taylor, but I would also agree with Charlie - Bogart and Lancaster movies are tough to beat...

Oh yes, Lancaster - how about "From Here to Eternity"? Man, there's alot of good old stuff. I've watched alot of 50's-era movies in the last year or so. I was born early 60's so I watched these as "classics" - I was shocked at how fine Elizabeth Taylor was the first movie I saw her in; I think it was "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". As a kid, nothing got me excited like a new "Rocky" movie. Recent stuff, gotta say "Saving Private Ryan". Hey, want a good movie to take your kids to? I just took my kids to see "Spirit" and we all really enjoyed it. I just bought the soundtrack for the family, REALLY good music, mostly Bryan Adams. My all-time favorite, I'm leaning toward "Godfather".

I agree with the ones posted so far. Good movies there. The two that affected me the most deeply and were, I feel, really well made were; Shindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

Yeah, Smoke is a good movie. Not an epic, not great. Just good. Probably nothing Your wife/GF would like. (Sequel) Blue in the face is also OK, though it's different with lots of celeberties in small parts. Very funny and odd.

Although movies are far better today than ever before in a technical sense, I think they were a lot more entertaining before everything had to be an epic blockbuster or convey profound meaning ... I tend to enjoy movies that have surprising turns of events ("Usual Suspects" is a good example) and my all-time favorite is a picture very few people have ever seen for some reason ... made in the 60's, it stars Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward, Burgess Meredith, Paul Ford, Jason Robards, Charles Bickford and Robert Middleton ... if you've never seen it (and the odds are you haven't) and can find it at a Blockbuster or other rental store, I highly recommend it ... about an hour and 30 or 40 minutes long and although not aimed at kids by any means, it's suitable for the entire family ... it's called "A Big Hand For The Little Lady" ... if you can find it, it's worth watching ... let me know what you think ... (and if you're one of those rare individuals who's seen it, don't give away the surprise twist in the storyline) ...

Some favorite movies: Blue Velvet (David Lynch is one of the greatest directors ever), Citizen Kane and Casablanca (They don't, or can't, make movies like these anymore), Platoon, Jaws, Beetlejuice ("We've come for your daughter Chuck"), Pulp Fiction (What happened to Quentin anyway?).

Did you ever see Lynch's "The Straight Story"? Great movie. I didn't really care for "Mullholland Drive", but that is one beautiful actress. Of course, "The Elephant Man" stands out as his classic.

Lynch is hard to watch and I am not a big fan of his movies, but Tarintino is working on a prequel to "Pulp Fiction"! If you haven't seen "Out of the Past", "Kiss of Death", "Kiss Me Deadly", "Touch of Evil", "Key Largo", "Cape Fear" or "The Killing".........go and rent, buy or steal them. All great examples of Film Noir genre and a modern movie that would fall right into that same genre is Mel Gibson in "Payback" (I think his best film role)!!! I only wish I could have seen all of those black and white films on the big screen, but they were all into color and cinemascope when I was a kid! Charlie

I liked Tin Men too ... which makes me think of another picture, although not a comedy, that I like a lot and which not too many have seen ... "Glengary, Glenross" ... I saw an interview with Jack Lemmon in which he said that he thought this might have been his best picture ever ... and I think he might have been right. An all-star cast if ever there were one too; besides Jack, there was Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey, and Alan Arkin

It's hard to have a favorite movie because it depends what kind of mood I happen to be in. Just about anything Mel Brooks. To watch a movie that makes you forget for two hours is always a good movie. I usualy like the movies that the reviewers hate.

What's the worst movie you've ever seen? For me, it was easily "Battlefield Earth". So awful it left me speechless (a truly rare event). I couldn't take my eyes off it, like watching a train wreck.

Dune!? Really? I liked it a lot and own the DVD. Great movie, IMHO. My worst "A" movie is The Godfather III, mainly because it used the name of the two best movies of all times and wasn't even in their league, IMFO of course.
