Yesterday morning I smoked half of a Santa Damiana H2000 and it was so-so. Went to work, put in 12 hours. Came home kind of tired and re-lit the SD. It was much better, seemed like a different gar. I have had that experience with several different gars. After being half smoked and left outside on my covered, screened-in patio all day, they seemed to have improved greatly. Naturally, this is not always the case. Anyone else had this experience?

Aside from different relighting techniques...I do the same thing -- usually trying to squeeze an early morning puff out of a butt from the night before -- and have had both good and bad results. Even when I smoke a cigar all the way through I notice that the flavor can start weak, almost tasteless, and spark up around the middle. This morning I relit about 2 inches of a COHIBA XV Robusto that set outside on our screened porch all night. I think it's a strong cigar anyway, but after the first couple of tokes, it was as good as when I put it down seven hours earlier, like you say, maybe even better. True, I've tried the same thing with other cigars and been sorry. Maybe some lay-away better than others. My guess would be the better the cigar (construction and how it's been stored) then the more likely you'll get extra mileage from it.

IMNSHO, if you're to have any chance at all of re-lighting working out favorably, the best thing to do is to carefully get rid of as much of the ash as you can and then blow outward on the cigar before you begin re-lighting it ... I've had a few good experiences to go with far more that were less-than-good ... on the whole, I tend to agree that it has a lot to do with how good a cigar we're talking about ...

From what I read in other forums a cigar should not be left alone for more than 30 minutes. I often leave them outside for a day after smoking half of one. I knock off the pre-burned part and they taste fine to me. Don't tell anyone but I leave a tin of cigars in my glovebox where they get exposed to >95°. Hopefully they do not produce excessive ozone! I think we are breaking cigar etiquette when we do these things.

There are 2 variables here - did the smoke get better or the smoker more receptive to the smoke. I believe it's possible to get better results on a relight. Maybe the cigar liked different humidity, temp etc. but I think it's likely that tastes change under circumstances. I seem to like full bodied dark wrapper on full or near full lunar cycles, while sticking to milder smokes at other times. or it could be that while doing mantras in the a.m., frequencies of the universe influence my likes...maybe CB has some way to influence this. Maybe it just the wife's menstrual cycle.

Gee Treb, I just reach into the humidor and grab something that will last the right amount of time for my smoking time.
Now I need to keep track of the lunar cycle, wifes cycle, weather patterns, time of day, manta rays?,pet's menstrual cycle, amount of flowers blooming on the oleander, martian lunar cycles, etc... Thats a lot of stuff to keep track of just to light up a twisted leaf.

I was watching the Travel channel 2 weeks ago(maybe 3), and they were in Cuba at a cigar factory(Trinidad I believe). The guide was showing them the "Cuban" way to smoking the 'gars. I was mortified when they simply bit the end off of the cap, and stoked it up with a Bic lighter. The guide stated that espresso(which the host couldn't handle!)or cuban coffee with a cigar in the morning is the normal start to a day. The guide then said that you're not supposed to finish the 'gar, but let it go out and finish it with your lunch. They seemed like "everyday" people. Anyone else catch the show? My own experiences have been good, and I've often found that re-lighting brings out more flavor too.

I never thought it could happen but I had an ISOM gar, not that ISOM but a gar procured from another site. I didn't care for it very much,so I put it down. I came to it about 2hrs later and I thought, what the hay, let's give it a go. Much 2 my surprise,it was much better. X
