Many of you will remember the old Mamas and Papas song in which they said that "if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" ... you might also want to wear a warm coat, in spite of the temps where YOU live in the summer time. Mark Twain is reputed to have said that the coldest winter of his life was a summer in San Francisco and if you've not been here in summer, believe me, he was not wrong ... just came in from lunch, where I did my best to enjoy not only lunch, but a nice cigar I got recently in a bid on this site ... brrrrrrrrr ... the arctic winds are pretty stiff out there today, so I know it must almost be July ... oh, and btw ... be sure to bring your own 'gars bought on CB unless you're prepared for the sticker shock you'll experience in CA when buying them in stores here ... now it's time to turn on my heater and get back to work ...

No Sh*t!! Everyday when I get home in the city it's 55 and socked in with fog. I don't think I've ever used the heat in the summer before! That's why I smoke a lot of gars on the way home from work, it's not too hot to have the windows down, which makes the car smell a lot better!!!

Hey you guys can bitch about the weather, but you do live in a beautiful city. I wish I was at this very moment warding off the chill with Irish coffee at the Buena Vista, getting ready to head to Chinatown for dinner! ‘Course you do gotta live with some pretty harsh smoking laws, so I guess it all balances out.

The "do gooder" smoker laws are quite obnoxious and cause lots of pain's in the ass, but the weather is about the best in the world! Charlie

I don't think it was the Mama's and the Papa's who sang that song but I can't remember who it was. And there are certain neighborhoods in SF where you shouldn't wear flowers in your hair at all but it is a beautiful city and Norcal is beautiful in many ways too! Weathers not so bad once you get out of the oceans influcence, in fact its fantastic.

while there ARE other groups that have published that song, it was the Mamas and Papas who wrote and first recorded it ... and yes, once away from the ocean influence (hell, at my house it's NICE today), it's not half bad, the problem is, I work where the wind comes sweeping fog off the ocean and down the canyons of the buildings in The City ... oh, and re; the flower in the hair: I never have worn such a flower ... in this city, it would clearly send a message I do NOT wish to send .. lol

Steve - sorry but San Francisco(be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) was written by John Phillips (papa John) while a member of the Journeymen and later recorded by Scott McKinenzie (in 1967) who was also a member of the Journeymen. The Mamas and the Papas never released the song on a single and I'm not sure that they even recorded it on an album. Am I dating myself or what.
