While women smoking cigars isn't the strange, unheard-of phenomenon it was a few years ago, it's still a bit less than common ...

Last Wednesday afternoon, I was in one of my favorite local shops and as more customers came in, I observed that the store owner and myself to be surrounded by no fewer than 5 women, each of whom was buying cigars. I could not resist initiating a conversation with these women (who did not come together ... each was there on her own) and found that each was making a purchase for herself, although one was also buying for her husband as well.

What are your opinions about women smoking cigars?? Do you like the idea, hate it or tolerate it? Do you find it to be sexy or do you think it detracts from a woman's femininity? Anyone other than myself have a wife/girlfriend who herfs a bit?

While I know this question'll get 'thread-jacked' (Slim, I love that phrase; thanks) in a hurry and in some pretty predictable directions, but I'm hoping for a bit of ACTUAL response to the question ... therefore, anyone whose response includes anything about "pink cigars" will be required to send me a cigar of my chosing

Seriously, I have no problem with women smoking anything. But, I've noticed (in a few local shops) women attempting to sell me cigars with misinformation and clearly not informed on cigars. Just this weekend some very good looking sales lady told me that those, dare I say it, the "short story" look alikes were made by Fuente. I laughed at her and told her she is very mistaken. She didn't like it very much and said I was wrong and that they "were the same tobacco and tasted the same". I laughed again and walked out. To top it off, she was saying what a bargain they were at $3.95 each.

So, in short and nothing personal, but it seems some women are being brought into the cigar scene just for the visual factory and to push sales.

True women cigar smokers are few, IMHO.

i think women can drink milk, drive a car, smoke a cigar, and do a bunch of other things.

I have no problem with women smoking cigars or doing anything else this world has to offer. I have to admit that when I see a woman smoking a stogie my initial reaction is that that must be an aggressive woman and to some it might be intimidating. I work with a woman who indulges and in general she is a delight, but she is very aggressive. I think my attitude comes from years of women's lib stuff, and I still say that women lost a lot to make the gains they did. I still open the door for my wife and do those little polite things I was brought up to do but I see many young people who don't know how to treat or how to be treated as a lady. I find that sad.

But let's not turn this thread to an old school, new school debate...Aside from my ex, I have a very close female friend with whom I smoke cigars, though actually, she prefers to smoke a pipe as that is allowed in her place of business and cigar smoking is not..

something I failed to mention when I put the original post in this thread up was that ALL 5 of the women in that store that day were quite attractive ... one of them was a little embarrassed at first about admitting her purchases were for herself, but after she warmed up, it was a really interesting conversation ...

there IS something I don't understand yet about female herfers tho and that is what made me put up this post in the first place ... I see women pretty often in cigar stores around the Bay Area and have observed that the ratio of attractive women who are there is far higher than in the population as a whole ... I don't understand what makes that true, but I'll pretty much guarantee you that it is ... any thoughts?

I don't see many women smokers in my area. The local shop is owned by a woman, and she has a lot of cigar knowledge. However, she works at our location about twice a month and has mostly male sales reps. My future (very near future) wife will enjoy a cigar with me every now and then, and some of her friends will also smoke when we all get together. As far as the general popualtion goes, the bay area sounds light years away from here in the womens cigar smoking catagory. I see more women (definately not the bay area attractive types) with a lip full of dip. yeeechh lol.

and who is letting these women out of the house? The new shop near me has two very attractive Russian women working in there, but when I'm there, all the customers have been male.

Steve, muster up the cajones the next time you encounter women at the smoke shop and invite them over here to the good ol' boys club.



I'd love to see the few, the proud, the cigar smoking people with their jejuneness back every single woman who visits into a corner and censor them. Maybe censor isn't the correct word.



Intimidate, yes, that's it. Let the aforementioned club members just try to intimidate not only each and every female, but also any poster new or old who accidentally or lazily makes a typo...or God (can we still say God here?) forbid they mention or question anything NOT within the scope and realm of the inner sanctum. And rightly so, we should fear the wrath of the upper echelon and righteous, long standing members. Expect it.

Steve, since we're on a friendly note, I just thought I'd thread-jack your post for my gain...I didn't think you'd mind. I would love to hear the opinion of any of the women that you meet and invite that actually show up here as to why they are drawn to it.



Personally, I would rather see a woman seductively smoking and enjoying a fine cigar than to see one chugging down a cheap brewski...that's just gross.

Or push a shopping cart straight in a supermarket!

You know why god gave women smaller feet don't you?.............So they can stand closer to the sink while their doin' the dishes :0).......Always gets a chuckle from the SO.LOL Not!

Part of my reason in asking was that I used to feel pretty much as you do, Goose ... I'm not sure what changed my mind or how it happened, but I've gone from your perspective to being somewhat amused by the idea to being fully accepting ... during the boom, my favorite local store used to have women's nights every Thursday and let me tell you, those were extraordinary events ... the place was absolutely packed. There're fewer cigar smokers of either sex now, but I still see a surprising number of women smoking cigars and I think that an unusually high percentage of them are quite attractive women.

You and Diane pop on by my place one of these evenings and the four of us will break out a beverage and light up some of those 54-ring cigars ... no farting will be tolerated from anyone although if you come by when my dog's gulping her dinner down, you'll be certain to hear HER belch since she is absolutely unlady-like in that regard (thankfully, she doesn't care for cigars ... I'd hate like hell to have to start buying for THREE!)

Don't get me wrong! Diane can burp and fart as well or better than I can, but she doesn't do it in mixed company. ;o) as for cigars, unfortunately, her association with them was tainted by a step grandfather who she could not stand who smoked about 10 of them a day. Just as I have a positive association with the smell of a cigar from my old man who I love to death, Diane still associates the smell with an overbearing SOB.

Smells are like that. Nothing conjurs up memories and emotions as well as aromas. My girl doesn't drink or smoke and I seriously doubt she would ever take a drag off a stogie, but she is still a lot of fun at parties! :o)

My girlfriend smokes cigars with me. She isnt into it as much as I am, but it is fun to smoke with her. There is a cigar shop in our local mall. There are chairs and tables to sit and smoke. It is funny to see the glances she gets when she lights up a gar. I think it is great.

You can legally smoke in cigar shops in California.

My wife smokes cigars with me, but only small ones like cigarillos and piquinas (sorry for the bad spelling). She loves it when I smoke my pipe, but isn't up to trying that yet :-).

We go out on the back porch to smoke, go to cigar tastings at the local shop, and every once in awhle we go out to a bar or pool hall. I love having her there with me to share the experience of a good cigar. Initially, she took it up to spend time with me but now she likes it. I have to keep a stash of Upmans, Don Diegos, and now HDM cigarillos in the humidor just for her.

It's a good idea.They talk less when their mouths are full.

I have 2 female friends that I work with who smoke cigars. And we get together once in a while and smoke and talk and have a good time. To me ist just friends liting up and having fun. And yes both of these ladies are very attractive and one is married to a Navy Seal and the other is dating One of my Cigar smoking buddies. We all enjoy getting together and lighting up. Can't wait till the next time

My woman and I herf almost every night. Its a wonderful thing and sexy as hell I might add. Especially with those big ring guages! (she'd rather smoke panatellas, damn it!)
Nothin like standing on the porch with a beautiful woman looking at the South Bay foothills listening to the coyotes and enjoying a touch of bourbon and fine hand rolled cigars. Ill be out there tonight with my CAO Brazillia and her with her 5 Vegas panetella. Unless she dips into my CAO or Excalibur stash...But its all good. DAMN I love her!

I don't mean to burst your bubble about those women you met in the store however; I have heard that night clubs often have something called "cigar night" which I believe means that it's Lesbian night at the club.

So, these attractive women you saw may have been there at the same time for a reason. I mean, if you were a lesbian going to "cigar night" the first place you would go is to a cigar shop for supplies I would think. My guess is there aren't that many around and they have to get their cigars somewhere.

The mall is in Parkersburg, WV. Nice little cigar shop.

Cant say much about California. Was there last June and went to a cigar shop in San Fran. The owner allowed us to smoke in the shop. He mentioned that the law does not apply to establishments where all the employees are owners. Dont know how true this is, but I want going to argue. Sounds like a funky loophole to me.
