Taliban American John Walker Lindh pleaded guilty today to aiding the Taliban and carrying explosives in carrying out that crime. Walker Lindh faces up to 20 years in prison. President Bush was briefed on the final agreement before it was presented, senior administration officials told CNN.

Tell us, after you've learned more of the details, whether you think he's getting what he deserves, is getting of lightly or ?? ...

For my part, while I am not especially vengeful toward him, I think he's getting off extremely easy ...

I think he is getting off easy because with a 20 year sentence he could be elgible for parole at some point! He should have been hanged for treason! Charlie

Yes, he is plainly guilty of carrying arms against the US. He was a dupe of the taliban and, I wonder if he knew the US was even there before he was staring down the barrel of an M-16. A deal is the best thing for all concerned. Too bad he wouldn't listen to people with good sense before he went to Afghanistan. A lot of teenagers are like that I guess.

an 18 or 19 year old idealist goes to a foreign country to study a religeon.---xrundog is correct, this kid didn't have any idea who he was fighting or why.--treason my butt.-- JonR, i don't know anything about this mandela business, because there is no comparison, oranges and apples, but why is the family a bunch of sickos?--- i think if this country wasn't in this furor over terrorism, forgetting for the moment that the bastards that killed 3000+ people were all saudi's, and not afganistan taliban, this kid might have had a fair trial.-- why the hell are we bombing the rubble the afganistan live in to make more rubble.--now we are going to finish the job his father didn't, we are going to have a surprise attack on iraq. oops, did i give away a secret, will charlie hang rick for treason?--- will this moron ashcroft get his TIPS going before some one realizes he is a nut.--are we going to have a soviet union kind of life, with a block spy leader that we all report to. are any of you paying attention?---i await the knock on the door in the middle of the night. it ain't paranoia when you can see it happenning.

Sorry boys, when your so called "18 or 19 year old idealist" participated in the prison break. He was participating in a conspiracy to commit murder and when the secret service agent died that made him an accesory and just as gulity of murder as the POS that killed him.IMO 1 life sentence would have been to light a sentence. This is truly an outrage.

Most excellently stated JJ , and Rick do you think scumbag's liyar would allow him to cop a plea for a twenty year sentence if it wasn't the deal of the century. In a news clip on CNN scumbag's scummy father did compare scumbag to Nelson Mandella , his sister said when he gets out of prison scumbag will do something wonderful to make us all proud of him and his scummy brother said he was already proud of him. If that family lived here in Philadelphia believe me when I tell they would move as soon as possible . JonR

JonR is absolutely right and since when is 18 a child? This guy is a traitor and should be locked up for life, or dead! His family seems to be a little left of center or one or two bricks short of a load (nuts is a better word for it)! The slimey attorneys couldn't accept that deal fast enough! Charlie

Well, at least little johnny-wanna-be-taliban will do SOME time, even though far too little and we can be thankful that he's not likely to be presented with an Academy Award unlike another traitor of not so many years ago.

Of course she had a famous name and a much higher profile ... She not only did NOT go to prison, but was never punished at all, and was actually enriched by her adoring public who stood in line to see movies that she starred in, bought exercise videos she made and were entertained by the sight of her sitting at the world series with her tv network/team-owning husband doing the tomahawk chop ...

Jane Fonda! What a hyprocritical b*tch! My one hope is that Lindh will be exercizing his gums(since his teeth will have been knocked out!) everyday while serving his "gift" sentence, performing that non-sex act that Rick never gets(receives?) but refers to quite often in this forum!

Exactly how did this guy "participate" in the prison break? I don't recall that being part of the charges. And he would be charged for that if possible I'm sure. Damn! I would not normally defend this guy. Some of you are just too anxious for bad stuff to happen to him.

X-dog, since when does studying a religion entail bearing arms? When he fought agains Americans, he basically denounced his citizenship. Not legally, but certainly in spirit. What would it take for you to realize his crimes? Would he have to kill somebody you knew during his battle against our soldiers? He's lucky he got a trial.

Rick, had the Afghans handed over Bin Laden when we asked them, this war would have a different look to it. We didn't arbitrarily pick thier desert to bomb. And as for your Soviet lifestyle, I would think that a socialist like yourself would actually enjoy that. Paranoid or not.

Rick the fairytale land you want does not exist anymore, because of the types of nuts that you feel should be free to run around the world until they actually committ an act of treason or terrorism against our country. We should not be able to "profile" them and catch them before they perform deeds such as 9/11 or the daily attrocities taking place in Isreal??? Wake up, the world has changed and we can no longer enjoy the unlocked front doors and open houses that we once knew!

Now, as far as Mr Johnny "Traitor" Lindh.........he will have a great time in prison "enjoying" the perverions that I hope are bestowed on him by 350 lb gorillas that are disguised as prisioners. Prison bitch will be a good label to place on him along with traitor! Charlie

im sure they are not going to kill him due to intelligence reasons. you fight against your country, you are a traitor. i dont want to hear any sort of bull**** that he was an idealistic young kid studying religion. Religion doesnt require picking up an AK-47 and fighting US troops. Being a traitor requires that. end of story.

'gater, I agree with the first part of your last. He's guilty of bearing arms against US soldiers. He admits it. What about the prison break thing? He was there? Guilt by association? People tried that in the 50's. It aint right. All I'm saying is: "Before you pick the firing squad, make sure the guy actually did what is alleged". And if he renounced his citizenship, he can't be guilty of treason. He fought for his country and should be a prisoner of war. That was the original arguement. The Gov. made their choice and I think are satisfied with it.

To all you guys hoping Lindh gets the pulp beaten out of him every day: Sorry to disappoint you but if he goes to a maximum security facility, which he probably will for his own safety, he could be in solitary for 23 hours a day, and 1 hour a day in the yard, alone, with a guard watching. I think he should stay in excellent health throughout his term because it gives him plenty of time to see how f***ed up this whole idea was, and hey, maybe, just maybe, it’s not a good idea to go to some near east sh**hole and take up arms against my own country, which coincidentally happens to be in the possession of enough high tech firepower to pound the p*ss out of just about anybody it takes aim at. “Yea, maybe I should have let the whole Jihad thing go, and just worked at Burger King or somethin’. Ya think?”

The world according to Rick: If you use capital punishment for a convicted act of treason, you are a Nazi state. Hmmm. Bold words. Perhaps you don't know as much as you think. Exactly which Nazi trait do we embody?

: tailgater ---start with TIPS and work backwords to the illegal act of the supreme court stopping the counting and appointing george as president.--- now check the stock market. --- than check how george was made a rich man. --- check george's missing year with the nat guard.--check anything you want.--but you will still think he is the second coming.

Rick, you are right in the regard that GWB is in fact the Second Coming! It is refreshing to have a man in office who doesn't just think about himself and how much money he can steal and then worry about "not having sex with that woman"! Rick be glad that he was "appointed" as you point out in nearly every post! Charlie

The Supreme Court ruled in favor of not allowing a repetative recount that would have continued until they fabricated the results they wanted ("they" being the Gore camp), As for Dubya being rich, he was born that way. Don't be angry if he was able to capitalize on it. And his "missing year" from the Guard? Are you ****ting me? What's more appropriate: a vague reference to some unaccounted time, or dodging the draft and staging militant opposition?

C'mon 'gater. I think we can agree that neither is appropriate. Is one worse? Maybe. But pointing out one person's bad behavior to justify anothers....is just wrong.
