I see a flaw in this whole "cigar auction" thingy. At other sites (CI included), if you want a particular cigar you simply pay retail. Here, you bid on several lots and have to wait to see if you "win". Sure, it's kinda fun, but the REAL problem begins once you finally receive your package. What happens if you actually like the cigars you've just purchased? You need to buy MORE! And the tricky part is that they may not be back on auction for some time. And once they are, there's NO WAY you want to pay MORE for the same smokes you just won for a song two weeks prior! I don't know about you, but I can't bring myself to pay more for an item once I got it at a discount. For instance, the first box of Puros Indios I got was about $65. I then won a box for around $45. I now find it difficult to pay over $45 even though I know they are worth a lot more. Another instance is the Tamboril Line of fine cigars. Somebody once gave me one to smoke. Now you couldn't pay me enough to smoke another one... I think you see my point.

Well, there ARE those times that you make a number of bids, knowing you'll lose a few of them and then, crazily enough ... you DON'T ...

My stock has been replenished twice in the last few weeks that way ... another week of that sort and I'll be needing another humidor or two ... guess I better check out the merchandise section, huh? OR ... hmmmmm .... how much spanish cedar do you think it would it take to panel the small back bedroom??? Yeah, that's it ...

..that's one of the things I like about CBid, I've learned a lot about cigars and discovered smokes I wouldn't have otherwise given a second look. If I go into a retail shop I spend more because I buy only brands I know. I don't want to pay retail for a disappointing smoke. Of course I'm going to get some bad cigars, but I didn't pay a premium for them. About winning the same lot at different bids, winning bids are all over the place. I might bid higher over time for a lot I once got at a bargain. But I never bid more than I'm willing to pay.

Well, you could win multiple lots, take the avg savings, and figure you payed your song for the one, and retail for the others, or, you could find a comparable cigar for same said song, or you could save all your "nubs" in a seperate butt-ador, and when you have enough, roll your own, thus saving even more! LOL

OK ... now, if you WERE to save those nubs in a butt-a-dor (damn, I LIKE that!) and began rolling your own, how many cigars could you smoke from an accumulation of 64 butts if you found that you could make one whole cigar from every four butts ??

A cigar from me to the first person to post the correct answer.

Steve, I was able to roll 4 cigars with my butt. I will send one to the first person that makes a request for a review.
Don't forget:

All newbies please send Steve a cigar!

80. you smoked 64 then used those butts to make 16 more, that comes to 80. what do I win?

ding, ding, ding, ... we have a winner ... bud451 is absolutely right ... if a new cigar could be made from 4 butts, a person could make 16 from those 64 ... THEN, with those 16 butts, he could make 4 more, then one final cigar from those butts.

Bud, I said a cigar ... send me an e-mail, we'll work out the details ... [email protected] ... and yes, the word from IS part of the addy ... it might have been a bad choice of names ... it sure has caused no end of confusion ... lol ...

the first answer of 16 overlooked the subsequent butts, the answer of 80 overlooked the wording of the question (how many could be smoked from an accumulation of 64 butts) but was still one off anyway ... and I just LOVED GetYourOwn's answer ... who, in my shoes wouldn't??? oh, and GYO, that's one cigar I've never tried ... maybe it'd be worth a chance unless they're made from (Lone) Wolf butts ...

My answer is the correct answer. You could make as many as you want from howerver many butts, they are going to taste like crap therefore making them UNSMOKEABLE.

That's how they make lone wolf cigars , they use the crap from four dog butts for every lone wolf cigar. JonR

of COURSE they'd be unsmokeable ... but then, I've got some that are which weren't just an amusing joke combined with a math puzzle like this post has been ... hell, I've even had a few that made the Lone Wolves look good ...

tyler said " 80. you smoked 64 then used those butts to make 16 more, that comes to 80. what do I win?"
BUT what about the cigars you roll from the 16 you smoked that would be 4 more would it not
and from those 4 you could make one more
85 is my final answer

the question posed was how many could one smoke as a result of rolling an accumulation of 64 butts into new cigars and he were able to get 1 new cigar from every 4 butts ... 85 would have been correct IF the question had read how many could he smoke if he began with 64 cigars, but ... the 64 accumulated butts the original question refered to COULD have been smoked by him, but some or even all of them might have been smoked by other people ...

21 is the correct answer to the question asked, Bud is the winner and I really will send him a cigar if he wants to send me an e-mail to tell me where to send it ...

getting dizzy? ... what are you smoking?

I smoked a couple of full-bodied cigars last night and got dizzy, but I'd thought the dizziness was from the cognac that accompanied them ...

Math hurts. Smoke good.

Last night was the bolivar petite corona (thanks Rookie) and a CAO extreme tubos #1. If I had a walk in, I wouldn't be dizzy I'd be floating.

If you got 16 WHOLE CIGARS from 64 butts, how could you then combine them again if they are whole cigars. They would not be considered butts anymore and it would rener them uncombinable by the wording of the question. If you were to say that how many cigars could you make with 64 PIECES then it would be valid. The answer 16 is definitely valid in this case because when the 4 butts are combined they are no longer a butt and are now whole cigars. You specifically asked how many you could make from BUTTS and NOT cigars.

if a man and a half can build a house and a half in a day and a half, how long does it take one man to build a house.
in both cases they are smoking cigars as they work, after all who would hire a builder that didn't smoke cigars?

this will be my final post on the subject of how many cigars from the 64 butts .... damn, talk about beating a dead horse ... the whole question requires a suspension of disbelief ... one cannot actually make new cigars from butts or we'd all be having to buy fewer cigars ...

that said, from an accumulation of 64 butts, that had been smoked by parties unnamed, IF one COULD actually make a new cigar from 4 butts, 16 whole cigars could be rolled ... after those were smoked, a person could use those 16 butts to make 4 more ... after smoking those 4, one final whole cigar could be rolled from the resulting butts ... 16 + 4 + 1 = 21 ...

It's NOT a cigar question at all, but a math test ... Bud answered it correctly first (and alone, as it turns out) and I sent him a cigar. . thanks to everyone who responded and my apologies for thread-jacking a legitimate question, but frankly, I enjoy that ... after all, in face-to-face communication, the exact same thing happens all the time ... I've enjoyed the responses but I won't be spending any time trying to roll the contents of my butt-a-dor into new cigars ..

You're right Rick! I apologize! I meant to infer that I view "some" of your political views as I would the Lone Wolf cigar but got a little too carried away! No disrespect intended! John
