Has anyone else ever had cigars get worse from aging? I bought several Hemingway Classics last year. They were great at first, but after six months of aging, they became rather mild and bland tasting. Down to one (it is about a year old now), and I have no desire to smoke it, as the last two that I had were ho-hum at best. Then again, the last two Hemingway Signatures that I had were less than stellar also, and they were fresh from a new box.

I've noticed that two cigars I bought out of the same box at the same time can vary in quality. Some brands seem more consistent than others. I'm really puzzled about the brand you mention because they are usually very consistent. Most of the smokes I age get better...up to a point. Check your humidor. A poorly operating humidor could be the problem. Try setting one aside in a friend's humidor or at a retailer and see if you get the same results. Use the salt test to check your humidifier. And let us know how the last one smokes.

calavera: you can send that mild and bland Hemmingway my way if you don't want it, since I never had one, I wouldn't know the difference.

Maybe that was the deal with the only Hemingway I ever tried ... and here I just thought it was because all those full-bodies I' smoke had fried my taste buds.

I just finished a Punch Rare Corojo Roth that had a year of age, it was awesome!! It lost a lot of it's harshness, and retained all of the full flavor!! Now I wonder why I traded some of these away 3 months ago. DOH!!!

Mhollowa: my coolordor is at 72 degrees (can't be helped, that is the temperature in the coolest part of my house) and at 68 percent humidity (Radio Shack digital hygrometer calibrated once before using and once more two months later). Oh well, the Hemingways were too expensive anyway. Guess that I will have to stick with the Maria Mancini Robusto Larga and the CAO Cameroon Toro (both much cheaper and much better, and both age very well).

I have heard that if you store different cigars together for a long period, they become a bit generic in taste. Perhaps a seperate unit for your specials are in order. Or if you are serious like some of these guys, you need a seperate 'dor for each brand. Me? I just dabble in a very serious manner.
