Wednesday night my wife came home from shopping at the grand opening to the new mall around here.. she brought me 3 nice smokes as a present (and to distract me from how much money she spent) I got 1 La Aurora Preferidos #1, 1 Fuente Don Carlos #2, and a Savinelli ELR #6 Robusto. I was in Awe... but here's the kicker.. I was talking about how much I appreciated it and all and she mentioned that they had other cigars that had limitd on them.. I was curious... We went today to check it out... after we looked around she suggested I buy these..
6 Opus X Perfexion #2
2 Arturo Hemmingway Short Story
2 Don Carlos #4
I paid 14.50 for the perfexions!
I spent $133 today.. the short story i smoked when I got home, the rest go into the humidor.
Oh and on the way home my Valentine 1 saved me from a 85 in a 65 situation w/ the highway patrol.. today is a good day.

I believe a 'Valentine 1' is a brand of radar detector ...

Yes, it went BEEP!, and pointed ahead so I knew something was up.. over a hill and BAM there he was sitting under a bridge. SO I hit the breaks.. I was going about 85 and slowed down until the car beside me passed me up. I passed the cop at about 65-70. That's 8 wins and 0 losses for me over the last 2 years. I can save about 30 minutes on a regular 90-120 minute trip. Best Radar detector there is.. but $400 is alot of money.

Damon- that's good to know. I'm in the market for a radar detector. $400 bucks is a lot of moolah to shell out, though. I hate to thread-jack this sucker, but give me a "buy" on this one. I've been good up to this point. Anybody have any suggestions in the $200 range for a nice radar?

Valentine 1 is state of the art. Every test I've seen places its sensitivity and multifrequency range far beyond any other device. If it saves you from one fifteen mph over the limit speeding ticket, that a lesser detector may not have detected, you're money ahead. A couple of speeding tickets and watch those insurance rates climb.

Dumb cop didn't know how to use his radar. Rule #1 Never leave it on active mode and watch the readout. Rule #2 Use short bursts of radar to get a quick readout. Most real good detectors (Valentine is probably the best covers K,X,KA and LASER plus some other little used kinds) will pick up the short blip but to the driver it will look like some transient interference. Rule #3 Alway see the car you are going to get a radar reading first. Get in idea of his speed first and a good estimate. I run a Stalker Dual KA band radar. It is currently state of the art. Has forward and rear antenna. Mine is good for about a mile out. I am on a special detail enforcing truck regulations. 90% of the interstate driverd have detectors. The only way to get a good speed reading is to not dawdle and keep the unit on. Just give it a quick flash and lock. I've stopped hundreds of people who had radar detectors. I'm not a jerk though. It's a game and I let a heck of a lot of people get off with a warning.

You wouldn't be able to tell if the Radar was instant-on. The only way to know is if your were in the car with the cop. The Radar manufacturers call Ka band instant-on. But it is used no different that any other type of radar. Because it operates at 34.7Ghz it has a less than 1% chance of background clutter and external interference to impede it's processing speed so it will give a speed reading as soon as it recieves a reflected signal. If it is left on you can "see" it for miles beyond its own range with a good detector. Imagine a radar as a flash light. On a clear day, you can see a flashlight beam for miles. But the radar is only as good at what it's antenna can "see" or receive a refelcted signal.

He may have picked up an earlier burst at another vehicle ... if the 'instant on' was used while he was in range ... the Valentine 1 will catch it ... mine does ... but - it's not bulletproof but still much better than those phoney 'make yourself invisible' units .... THEY DO NOT WORK ...

Unfortunately for the speeder, the instant on reading by the detector means, your speed has already been calculated and displayed. Generally, if you get a hit on the radar detector, but you don't get pulled over; the Officer probably chose not to go after you. We have a stretch of highway where 100+ mph in not uncommon. Limit is 70 so a guy could be going 85 or so, get a radar warning, have his speed read by radar and not get pulled over. The reason usually is, the Officer sees that speed all the time and would go crazy trying to catch all the 85 mph cars. He waiting for the 90+ speeds. BTW how did I manage to threadjack this one.
