Robusto

Do you pronounce it row-bust-oh or row-boost-oh?
The hill-billy in me wants to pronounce it row-bust-oh
but the spanish student in me wants row-boost-oh.
Anybody really know?

I believe the correct pronunciation to be row-bust-o. At least as far as I have heard it spoken in most languages, Spanish included.......Brent

I have always pronunciated it as, "Row-Bust-Oh". Now I am also Southern with a draw but college has drawn some of it out depending on the company I am in is how I might say something. Yee Haw!!!!!!!!!!

Ro-booo-sto is the authentic pronunciation I do believe.

As long as it tastes good, it just don't matter!

Gentlemen, We must remember that we are talking about cigars here! So I say, it doesn't matter how in the hell you SAY it as long as you remember to fully extend your pinkie finger when puffing or taking a sip......

American pronunciation is "row-bust-oh" and Spanish pronunciation is "row-boost-oh". Unless you are in a Spanish-speaking country or expect to be spoken back to in fluent Spanish, then I'd stick to the American version, it's more widely used here in the States.

Croissant. Would you say Kroy-sant...?
How about a nice Merlot (Mir-lot), or a lasagna (la-sag-nah). ???
Let's be somewhat appropriate. But please do as told and keep that pinky extended at all times....

Thanks all for clearing that up. Not!

I am kinda leaning toward the rrrrow-booo-sto pronunciation. It gives the word a bit more life.
When you say it with the spanish inflection it just feels better.

Say out loud "I like robustos" then "aprecio robustos" with both inflections. Which feels better on your tongue? (It's all about how it feels on your tongue is it not? After all we are talking about cigars) Don't forget to roll your RRRRRs.

Here in Texas, I think it's "raww-boosta" and "kroy-saint".

Let's all stick to the Spanish versions. After all, it's Presidente, not President. Although "Casa de Dios on the mound" sounds a bit pretentious, don't you think? How about IglesiaColina? Help me out here.

Aaaaha! Tailgater brings up a good point. If its presidente then likewise it should be ro-boost-o, makes sense....I think ;{

Puedo hablar espanol y la pronunciation de robusto es "ro-boosto" in espanol pero, mas personas en esto pais hablan ingles, entonces, tenemos que pronunciar la palabra "robusto" como un gringo, porque somos gringos! Entiende?

Wow, didn't realize I remembered so much of my Spanish after not using it for 20 years. Hegemonic, your point is well made, but so is yours Rob. I guess it's the old to-mat-to, to-mah-to question. Just remember, as our uncle points out, we are all genteel hear and the smoking lamp is lit!!

this may seem obvious and I digress but just for those who jokingly say "extend your pinkie finger while smoking a robusto"
remember that we are speaking of roboostos and if you dont extend it somwhat youre prone to get burned.;]

Squattro, I think I agree with you, in principle.

Rah-BOOST-oh. All the emphasis is on the BOOST.

I wish I could roll my RRRRRs. I need to practice that. I have trouble with Spanish GGGGs also. Their HHHS and JJJs are pretty easy.

Wazoo says "Hey".

Bust over boost, but more importantly . . .
RUH over row !

Ruh bust oh.

Think But on the other hand . . .
It might be RAH bust oh, because most of us call them "robs or robbies" for short.

It worked for me... I just tried it again

https://youtu.be/5DxDEoDojJ4

and Astro it is......it seems Scooby stole this line from Astro who first used it in 1962......Scooby first used it in 1969

The same person, Don Messick, did the voices for both Astro and Scooby.....

It's spelled robusto, why would you pronounce it roboosto?

And... just like there's no nie-ther... neither is nee-ther.

You can't have an argument and say, "Ain't nie-ther." "Is too!"

It has to be "Ain't neether." "Is too!"

People not from Texas sure have funny ideas about words.
