Thanks BMW for the tip on formatting paragraphs that you posted some time back, less than sign plus br plus greater than sign. Your example used open and closed brackets instead. One of these worked at the time but now I can't get them to work at all, witness my last postings on overbidding. jjohnson28, I tried emailing you as you had indicated but the messages came back. Help again!

hmmm. i am surprised that worked.

the P does not have to be caps. it doesn't matter.

bold = <b>

italic = <i>

color = <font color="red"> or "blue" or "green" etc.

Thanks LLT, I was just searching the boards for the original post. Slim was kind enough to send me some instructions.

How did you manage to type the html and have it show up?

ok, let's see if this works, too:

the < and the > are special characters that you make by typing &lt and &gt, so

&lt = < and &gt = >

if i didn't screw that up ;o)

I'm going to try it. There should be a paragraph following this.

Did it work? And if so, how did BMW's < br > work before. Does any of this depend on how the browser is configured?

Yup. I flunked. A little port and a bad IT that I decided not to finish. My apologies for indulging myself. Never tried to print the < and the > before. Hiccup. G'nite.

It doesn't work on a lot of BBS's. Just have to sneak one in when no one is looking and prepare for a flogging.

I find it very annoying that this message board forces you to use code in your messages to create line and paragraph breaks.

Even cheapo shareware BBS software provides that automatically by just hitting the space bar on your keyboard. Why can't this board do that?

I suggested that they look into something a little more sophisticated like INFOPOP's Ultimate Bulleting Board software. It puts what they are currently using to shame and isn't that expensive to purchase. Never heard anything more about it.

Oh well...In a way it is kind of like riding on a time machine back to the year 1987 when you use this forum! LOL!

Also, the ability to EDIT you messages, which is something every message forum on the planet offers EXCEPT THIS ONE would also be a nice touch!!! ;o)

Come to think of it, you could edit messages back in 1987 on most BBS systems I used. LOL!

Then why don't you lay the Golden Egg ...
Sell it...
... and buy cBid and do what you want with the forum?

Till then ... you're always welcome to 'gander' elsewhere ....
or continue to bitch about things here as you'd like ...

We don't hold grudges, we don't discriminate, we hardly ever agree ....

That's why most of us are still here...

I supposed you are still using candles instead of electricity over there in the Jimmy household?

Based on your reaction to my suggestion of bringng this BBS up to the standards of the last 10 years, I must assume you are a ludite of the highest order.

I'd rather be a ludite than look like an ass ...
- bottom line with this forum is that if you don't like how it's run/setup - you can always leave.
cBid doesn't have to cater to ignorant whims just to get and keep customers.

SOOOO - if you're that damn important, that damn rich, why don't you offer to PAY $$$ to 'update' the forum?

... or did you not get your unemployment check this month?

I used LUCITE® acrylic surfaces on my bathtub. Very nice finish. But if you do not use some sort of traction device they are quite slick. I like the ones shaped like feet.
GG7, If you lite a few candles in the bedroom you might get a little more action.

"cBid doesn't have to cater to ignorant whims just to get and keep customers."

Man are you PATHETIC! You need to get out more and perhaps you would realize that there are BBS systems out there that allow line breaks using the SPACE BAR on your keyboard, BOLD and Enlarged text using...Dare I say it...COMMAND/BOLD and Large or SMALL buttons, and even the ability to EDIT your messages if you like within a certain period.

Problem with you old geezers is that you don't know anything but this forum and perhaps what you find at AARP web sites!

The saddest part about this issue is that the improvements I am suggesting would help lame asses like you more than anyone!

I don't know what trailer park you are typing out of, but if anyone is and ignornat ass, it is certainly you and anyone else that thinks the staus quo around here is something to jump up and down about.

HEAVEN FORBID, some of us would like to see an improved message board and auctions that are not overrun with penny any EBAY retailers trying to get their stock ceap so they can sell it to morons at twice retail!

Sheesh! Why do I waste my time here?

GG7, Is it necessary to make fun of RICKMAVEN? You should hope to look so good at 70! The guy that is getting under your skin is Jimmy and he is younger than you. Pay attention to what is going on before you shoot your venom. Next you will want smiley faces here. About editing, why would they allow you to edit a post? So you can make a statement and then change it? If you screw up just post again. DUH. Maybe the owners wanted to provide a forum that just uses words. No happy faces no pictures just your short opinion. They didn't even start using HTML code until recently.
Leave Rick outta this you brute!

Geez...I have a day off and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a CAT FIGHT. Don't fight girls you will rip your nylons.

I am smoking a nice Fuentes Curly Head Deluxe and see this name calling and spitting at each other. "MOM, GG7 touched Jimmy". This is supposed to be one big "happy" family. O.K. then all for GG7 standover here>>>>>>>.

As someone said "If you don't like what you see here then please leave". We can all give our opinions. This includes GG7 and Jimmy. Why do we have to take sides and attack each other? Let GG7 and Jimmy have their say and then let's light up a good one and all stand together and get the really bad asses THE OVERBIDDERS

If GG7 wants to sound off about the way this board operates then so be it. But then someone feels that they should "defend the honor of the BOARD" so they start name calling and making derogatory remarks. If CBID feels that they are being threatened or denigrated then I am sure that they are able to defend themselves. Right Gonz?

DAD, are we there yet?...69

And as far as the BBS feature argument goes:

If some of you would prefer to defend this site's primitive forum software and rationalize its lack of features into some kind of benefit, be my guest.

Personally, I think its sad that those offering constructive criticism about this site are ridiculed for trying to make this a better place for everyone, including the clueless doing the name callling.

Oh well, I tried.

By the way, Rick is not the oldest member of this forum! My old man probably is (83 years young) . He occasionally reads but doesn't post and is a big fan of Rick's political views.

Mailing letters back and forth would be antiquated.

Using special symbols to get a paragraph break isn't.

And don't think that suggestions aren't noted simply because you've got no response.

OK ... here it is again, for those who missed it the first time. And I'm posting it here, just to see what happens ...

I know this may not work ... but it will be fun to see what happens.

HTML Codes

To enrich your posts, you may wish to use HTML codes to enhance your text. Below, you will find a list of commonly used HTML codes. As HTML codes can potentially alter the display of threads, if you include HTML codes in your posts ...

Please use the codes exactly as they are written!
This includes using the ending codes (with the / )!!

Note: by exactly, I mean the ( should be replaced with a , an visa versa!

To Create an Email Link:

(a href="mailto:[email protected]")E-Mail(/a)

This can also be used to insert a URL (between the " ") and put in whatever you want to call it, in place of 'E-Mail' ... but, if it is a link to an email, leave the mailto:

To Create a New Line:

line1(br)line2 ... to double space, do that twice.

To Bold:

(b)text(/b)

To Italicize:

(i)text(/i)

To Underline:

(u)text(/u)

To Change the Text Size:
(font size=2)text(/font)

(font size=3)text(/font)

... and so on.

To Change the Text Color:

(font color="red")text(/font)

Pick any color ... even 'chartreuse' or 'maroon', you will be surprised.

Next time ... I'll show you how to change fonts!

This should really get GG7's 'panties' in a bunch ... hehehe!

Besides, how much fun would it be, if there was a forum already set out for us, where we could not have the opportunity to create our own world, just the way each individual wanted his/her particular post to look like?

Answer that ... oh 'golden' one ...

Let me clarify my statement,

"This can also be used to insert a URL (between the " ") and put in whatever you want to call it, in place of 'E-Mail' ... but, if it is a link to an email, leave the mailto:"

Put the URL between the quotation marks, like "http://www.cigarbid.com" ... and then, in place of where you see 'E-Mail' put in what you call the link, it can be part of the sentence, or a phrase or word by itself.

'Cut and paste' is an excellent way to do this ... just 'copy and paste' the HTML you want to use a couple of lines below the line you are working on ... and do your thing.

What the heck ... I'm on a roll.

Here is how you change fonts. You can find the 'names' of all the fonts you will ever need in your email (if you have 'Rich Text' email)

I'm even going to show you how to incorporate font size also ...

(font size="+1" color="maroon" face="Garamond, Times New Roman")some text ...(/font)

It is always good to have a back-up font (that's why I have two) just in case one is not available.

It should look like this:

Shotgun BT

or ...

Shotgun BT ...

See, I screwed up.

That last one should have read ...

ShotgunBlanks BT ...

Oh well ... isn't it fun to be creative, and not have some program dictate what we can, and cannot do? It's loads of fun to exercise ones mind ...
That ... is what makes this place fun ...

Oh, BTW ... I'm the only one here that can tell you guys what not to do ... hehehe!

Slim, have you ever used any other BBS software but this one? You don't seem to be grasping what I am talking about here. Question for you:

Do you handcode HTML into your emails too??? ;o) Also, before people start thinking you are teaching them HTML, I should point out that ( and ) are not used in tags. We use

FYI: The INFOPOP Ultimate BBS software as well as most others allow you to use a simple form of markup code within a message in addition to formatting using a GUI interface, although there is really little need to do so since EVERYTHING you are doing here can be done in a fraction of the time. You have the option to use either one or both.

(If you have Outlook or Outlook Express, you already have an interface like UBB.)

Even though this current system permits a redumentary use of markup, the fact that such a tiny percentage of the users here even bother to use line breaks indicates to me that most don't want to be bothered adding all those extra characters manually. It just takes too much time, and since you can't preview your message or edit after posting, newbies are going to end up posting a lot of botched messages.

Like I said before, if you want to rationalize the limitations of this primitive system into a list of benefits, be my guest. Its too bad that so many in this thread prefers to chastise people for suggesting a better way, rather than taking the time to consider their suggestion by examining other software.

In case there is anyone lurking out there (Gonz?) that is actually interested in seeing what I am talking about go HERE

Later.
