Since I will be trying some other cigars. Tell exactly how one would do the perfect draw to fully appreciate the flavor of a cigar. You definately do not inhale right.

Typically cigars are not inhaled. Make it a draw that's comfortable to you. Don't bug your eyes out trying to suck on the stick. I try to take smooth draws. Smoking a cigar is all about what you like and what makes it enjoyable for you.

It'd be a lot easier to show you what I do than to describe it, but I like a cigar that draws just a little tight, but easy and smooth enough to produce a good, strong volume of smoke ... I do not inhale in the sense that it goes into my lungs, but after getting a healthy quantity in my mouth, I do what I once heard termed "French inhaling" ... this takes a lot of practice, but I let the smoke come out my mouth, inhale it up my nose (damn, this sure sounds gross ... but it doesn't seem gross when I DO it??) and let it back out my mouth without letting it go down my lungs ... I can recycle a good puff two or three times ...

No one around me has commented on this in years, but I've had some weird comments in the past ... (and'll probably get a lot more here ... why the hell I'm talking about this, I dunno) ... I know I'm not the only one in the world who does this, either ... I've noticed that the owner of one of the nicest little local stores here does the same thing

wbslngr,

picture this...you've given one of your favorite smokes a nice guillotine cut just below the bend in the cap and you are now toasting the foot (getting the edges charred but not up the wrapper); you then caress that cigar like the sweet lips of your favorite lady, put some fire to the edge of the foot and slowly rotate the cigar in your mouth; each puff sends out a burst of flame at the foot; yessery she's gettin' hot and after a couple of turns you blow out the excess.
Admire the fine craftsmanship and thank the man upstairs for such a creation and giving us very, very small humans enough brains and skill to put it all together. The next puff comes like a cool drink of water you know you will not finish because there is going to be more to savor. You draw the smoke left over in the cigar and blow that out, then slowly draw in more to fill your mouth then gently blow slowly back out in front of your nose "tasting" every nuance that precious leaf has to offer; wait a few seconds after swishing some single malt (or Dewars and water); get the smile off your face and repeat brother...repeat until that baby is burnin those fingers and you'll be damned if you'll put it down until the blisters are forming....yeah, wbslngr..now your smokin'...

Two things...1) don't lick the damn cigar...It's not needed...Just because your father or grandfather did it (prior to humidors) doesn't make it right...2) Try not to take numerous quick puffs in order...It will cause the cigar to taste rather harsh (burns the tobacco rapidly)..Take a single long draw every 30-60 seconds...Enjoy the aroma by occasionally waving the cigar NEAR (but not too close!) your nose so you can experience the aroma better...As far as inhaling, I just don't do it...I only inhale a bit from smelling the smoke..That's about it...Hope this doesnt make me look like an elitist to some of ya!..LOL

Keith, agree with you on your comments and have a real problem with watching someone "slurp" on a cigar like a dog going after a bone! Charlie

This is a good place for asking many of your questions. But, dont you have a cigar store or titty bar in your town? Go to the cigar store when they have a group of smokers and hang out and watch them. Just don't stare with a sparkle in your eye.
You will find that there are different ways to hold your cigar in your hand. Different ways to hold it while you puff. Some people like to chew on the end and some people like to lite it up after an hour of foreplay. Some like to toast the end until it is black some like to start smoking it. Some people are constantly trying to stop runs and others are constanly putting a lighter to it while smoking. Some keep it in their mouth the whole time while others set it down and take an occasional puff.
I prefer to barely toast it and hold it between my middle and ring fingers. I let very little saliva get on the cap. When my wife takes a puff she french kisses it I think. It comes back all wet.
It would be better for you to see some others in action and develop your own style. Have you mentioned where you are from? You may have some of these people living right down the street. Sorry, but this is not an easy hobby.

That is for sure, but I will not be discouraged. I live in Indianapolis. There are a few clubs close to my house. One really nice one with lockers in the walk in humidor with gold name plates but usually people are buying and leaving not buying and staying.

Call the Humidors and ask them if they have a vendor that comes for "taste-ings". One of ours has a vendor that gives away a free cigar on the first and third Sunday of each month. They also have other smoking events. We also have a cigar club where people gather to smoke and drink. It is in the expensive part of town. The parking lot is full of white Lincoln SUVs.

That club I was talking about had a cigar roller coming to town. That seemed like it could be interesting.

JD That is a great job describing the experience.

I don't think I can elaborate, except that I usually stop before the blistering starts.
