I am trying to get some info. on this line. Are they
as good as the others from Drew Estate?

These are alright, but no where near as good as other drew estates.

I prefer Drews Industrial Press, or Acid line myself. Nothing beats a Def Sea. Except maybe a brick, or an Ambrosia spice or etc. etc.

Peace to you--Leon

Which ones are better.. The torpedo or the robusto?
I purchased some Oliva "O" Ole's and saw the Drew
Estates[new line] and couldn't resist on bidding..I
have enjoyed all of their other lines. I aquired a
couple eight packs of these. Thanks for the feedback!!

The sportsman reserve is nothing more than an average, one-dimensional cigar possibly made with short filler. Looks nice and burns well, but lacks any depth.

Sportsmans Reserve is OK but not one you will be telling all your friends about. I have a few.

Don't spend more than .75-$1 per cigar. Bid on a 5 pack and see what u think.

mudduckcolorado -- Which ones are better ... the torpedo or the robusto?

Oh come on now ...

That's like asking which one is better ... blondes or brunettes?

Basically, what I'm trying to say, is it a personal preference IMHO ...

To be honest I could not tell the difference. I personally prefer a torpedo shape so I would give those the edge.

If you want a cheaper smoke, I thought you should try the Biarritz or Don Lino lines. I recently tried both and was able to grab 10 cigars for less than a buck a piece here at c-bid. The Biarrittz are exceptional. I shouldn't say that becasue the price probably will shoot upwards, but maybe noone else will read this. Hehe.

There can be only one....Leon

I purchased some of the Sportsman Reserve through the auction and found it to be a nice cigar with a nice burn...maybe not the cigar to take out and share with friends if you want to impress them, but if you want a nice middle of the road smoke it is nice.

To my taste, there's a fair amount of taste difference depending on shape ... IMO, the corona size seems to burn a bit hot and harsh, the robusto size burns distinctly cooler and has a somewhat sweet edge to it while the torp is more of what I expect and like in a cigar ... not as full-bodied as I generally prefer, but as has been pointed out, a good middle-of-the-road smoke ...

Maybe it's just me. When I light one, it takes a while for it to mellow out. I was reading this thread and brought one out when I did some yard work. (In order to conduct research ) I forgot what they tasted like.

Kind of a rough starter but smokes okay. I don't know what it is, but these smelled strong of ammonia when first lit. It goes away after a couple puffs. But they make my eyes water to get them started. Good for the morning yard work, but not one you want to smoke to the nub.

The last couple inches went into the mulch pile. Better to smoke while fishing on a boat with a beer or two.

I just smoke one.. and it wasn't to bad.. not the best,
nor the worst.. one dimensional.. Nothing special.
You would think w/ names like Drew Estate and Perdomo,
they would have came up w/ something better..

i was first introduced to drew estates about a year ago in a gar shop in vermont. i bought a root for the ride home and it has become one of my alltime favorites. everytime i get the chance to bid on a box i do. its a great morning, noon cigar. i bid on a bundle of the sportsman thinking it would be as pleasing to me and it was a dog rocket. i gave the entire bundle to a fishing buddie who smokes anything.

i wouldn't exactly call 'em dog rockets. i've tasted much worse for twice the price.

The Sportmans are nice looking cigars, but very one-dimensional and uninteresting. Give them to mooches. Best cheap smoke on c-bid is Don Juan robusto after a few months in the humi. Note I did not say best smoke, just best cheap smoke. They don't get bid up much. ( Not so far, anyway ;o) )

Then again, it's all a matter of taste. YMMV

Try the Colada size...it has a little more kick, with some added spice. It's definitely a tasty little smoke, and in my opinion, the best size in the line.
