James McMurtry (son of Larry) "St. Mary Of The Woods". Excellent. Strong lyrics, great musicianship. For those of you who like singer-songwriters this is a must hear. It goes very well with a CAO Brazilia Gol.

In case you're serious, it does have some country influence, but also rock and roll. He's one of those Texas singer-songwriters that are hard to classify, like Robert Earl Keen, Joe Ely or Lyle Lovett. Good stuff.

Thanks JR, they had him on KPFT the other week and I was trying to remember his name.

I've been listening to Beck's newest release called Sea Change. Not the usual stuff. Lots of acoustics and haunting vocals. Real good stuff for smoking a cigar and watching the sun go down over the ocean.

P.S. It's been rumored that coconut rum on the rocks or Ybor Gold go with a cigar. Could anyone substantiate that rumor.

Let me expound on the Beck CD.

It has tendencies towards early Nirvana mixed with Beach Boys "Pet Sounds",Beatles "Sgt.Pepper" ,a dash of John Haitt with a hint of Chris Isaak. This is a breakout album for him towards something more than dubbing and mixing. I hope he tours extensively for this effort.

If you like Peter Gabriel, then you'll really enjoy this CD. It's very quiet. I keep finding myself going back for this. I like tracks "Little One", "Guess I'm Doing Fine" and "Lonesome Tears"

Vibe,

i picked up both today. it's amazing how different each one is but similar. i think you're right about beck breaking out and i think gabriel is going to pick up some new fans... and btw, two very well produced cd's.

From James McMurtry to Peter Gabriel? Now that's weird.

Vibe,

how do you describe a gabriel album, er... cd? it's gabriel, a lil dark with some humor and of course there's the "world beat" and a spiritual/gospel feel. i dunno how to describe it, (LOL) but it's good.

Has anyone else heard or read of the relationship between Peter Gabriel and the murderer Ira Einhorn. Einhorn's defense attorney stated that he may call Peter Gabriel as a witness in his new trial.
if interested:

I really like Peter Gabriel but if he truly is or was friends with Einhorn then I will never listen or purchase his songs again.

not a big deal, he and ellen burstyn being called as character witnesses. i'm not a "unicorn" fan by any stretch but he must have behaved himself while on the lam or it wouldn't have taken so long to find him.

CJ, I think I am misunderstanding you...are you saying that even if he murdered that poor woman it's no big deal since he hasn't murdered anyone else and hid them in a chest in his bedroom while living in that scum of a country known as France?

ok i'll spell it out for ya guv.
more than likely while the unicorn was on the lam (and i'm guessing he became a model citizen so as not to draw attention to himself) he became aquainted with burstyn and gabriel.
burstyn and gabriel (knowing him only as a model citizen) can only attest to his character since they've met him and not his muddled past.
i hate to get into wherefores and what if's but the defense attorney isn't going to call witnesses to testify against his client and anyone that can possibly connect the unicorn with the murder.

CJ, no need to "spell it out"...I was just curious about your statement on Einhorn "behaving" himself since he murdered Holly Maddux.
