Hello folks, I'm a newbie and have a question relating to humidors. I'd like to add a couple of dividers. I've got some cedar (I got it at Home Depot, it's packaged for lining a drawer.) I cut one piece to size, and put it in the humidor. I then cut another piece... when I opened the humidor again after only about 15 minutes, I was blasted by a really strong cedar aroma. I couldn't even smell any tobacco! I took it out immediately. My question is, Have any of you used this stuff? Will all my cigars smell like my grandma's cedar chest if I leave it there? What else can I use?
Thanks in advance.
BTW I've enjoyed reading your posts. Sounds like a fun group.

Get that cedar otta there before you ruin your cigars. That type of cedar will taint your cigars with that smell. Use only spanish cedar. X

Thanks. It was only in there for about 10 minutes. Know where I might find some Spanish cedar?

You can use cedar from used cigar boxes. Check with you local tobaconist for an empty if you don't have any. Baggies work good for separating cigars (just not pretty). Separate different brands, wrappers, etc with them. Just leave the end cracked open a bit.

Thanks a lot. Now that THAT'S settled...
Anybody in the Austin area looking for some aromatic cedar to line a drawer with???
I just happen to have some and would be willing to trade for... say... a CAO Anniversaire, or an Onyx..

2 board feet of 1/4" spanish cedar, 2 pieces, sanded 150 grit. Plenty for one humidor. www.lumberforsale.com.
