Sidenote for Ricky:
Your favorite AG, Ashcroft, has been criticized on these boards in days past for "losing to a dead man".
While technically true, that's not the whole story.
When he was running for the senate in Missouri, his opponent did die very close to the election. The emotional outcry lifted the "dead man" (I forget his name) to new heights, and the results had the democrat winning.
One problem: It is ILLEGAL under MO law to have the deceased on the ballot. Ashcroft could have gone to the states courts and easily voided all the votes.
He instead took the High Road. A path all too unfamiliar with the democrats of the last half century. Ashcroft allowed the widow to hold the seat out of RESPECT.
And you hate him because he has strong religious beliefs which have never caused him to act inappropriately in his professional career.
What's the matter, was there no cartoon to explain this to you?
