Now they've got Whole Foods in their pocket as well. Total respect to the Haitians for burning those seeds, and hope for the rest of us that we learn to do the same.

Why is it not a good thing? If you don't want the characteristics that they have produced in their seed, you are perfectly free to get non-Monsanto seed from a ton of other sources.

for small scale home garden, yes, there are lots of options for seeds. For large scale food production, no, there are not so many options. the world's entire food supply is controlled by a very small list of corporations.

9 out of 10 seeds in the WORLD have Monsanto's name on them. They entered farmers into contracts that will result in them losing their farms, money, and livelihood if they EVER break the contract and use anything other than Monsanto seed. The hybrid seeds have a kill gene in them that literally kills the plant before new seed can be made. Farmers and even civilians are being sued right and left for growing other than Monsanto Seed.

in other words, 9/10ths of the worlds grain and veggie supplies are controlled by a company that can kill off the entire supply of food to ALL of us. Please do some research into this. It is very scary. Ask yourself, where does your food come from and why are you allowing genetic engineers to modify the seed so that it cannot reproduce naturally. Cancer? Think real hard on what food you are putting into you body.

Monsanto rules all of our food. Think about that.

The haitians burned their seeds. We all should.

Or just let this thread die, and lets focus on Obama or something.

Monsanto was behind the recent food safety bill.

They've been busted killing people's entire crops in a modern day "witch test" -- if Monsanto suspects their seeds are growing in a farmer's field, they fly over the field and spray Roundup on it. If the plants die, then the farmer wasn't using their seeds. If the plants don't die, the farmer gets sued.

They will plant a field of their genetically modified "patented" crops next to a small organic or small family farm. Then, when bees cross-pollinate the fields, Monsanto SUES the small farm for stealing.

This is one of the reasons why I laugh at democrats who think their party is "holding big business accountable" and all that nonsense. It was democrats who pushed this food safety bill through, handing a huge win to Monsanto, who basically WROTE the f**king legislation.

The convoluted symbiosis between big business and big government affects every aspect not only of our lives, but the lives of those living in other countries as well. Big Agra, Big Pharma, the Banksters...but how do you start draining the swamp, if the nation is already 99% swamp and sinking fast?

Dadzilla, we can start by trying to take back our food. The haitians had a whole lot of that seed delivered to them by the USDA and Monsanto last week. The farmers gladly accepted it (they didn't really have a choice), and took the seeds back to their farms. There they burned every last seed.

EVER LAST SEED WAS BURNED.

They have been growing organic maize for years. They did not allow Monsanto to take them over.

We are trying to do the same worldwide. Organic farms are popping up all over the place (even Fish is harvesting his own deer, right?), and we are putting them out of work.

Our biggest block to this is the polarization that our corporations and government instill in us. See above how already this evil Monsanto has been shifted to the "evil democrats." Now it's a political thing again as usual and some liberal will be blamed for it all. Oops, they already are as this thread has shown.

and as usual you are focusing on me and polarization rather than the issue. Piss off and forget about ME dude. Read up on this stuff and make up your mind if you care, are concerned, and/or how you plan to try to change things for the betterment of YOUR family if at all.

Knock off the "us and them" crap, dude.

Monsanto just convinced the worlds largest "organic" food provider to buy into them. Now they even own food that people THINK is good for them.

We'll never make it to "global" hockeydad. You've got it all figured out for sure, but you are forgetting the very basis of human existence. We overcome. We adapt. We evolve.

This whole thing will continue to gain momentum, just as you suggest. But when the cards hit the table, Mother Nature, God, Human Consciousness, whatever, will prevail. It's gonna fail. All of it. Sometimes you gotta start over. About every 25,000 years from what history tells us.

It's not about being ready or stockpiling whatever. it's just about being able to adapt to it when it comes. Being able to get up and move and start it all over. I've made a career out of this. This moving around thing. now I'm set up in so many places. I just need to choose the right place to be when it all falls down.

Obama is going to lead us into it.

It will always fail eventually. When it fails, there will be another global war followed by temporary isolation. People wanting to live in their little communities and farms having nothing to do with the rest of the world. A simple economy...almost a barter economy. The good 'ole days.

The globalists will always try to stop the war. Destruction for the sake of a line in the sand...over the colors on a flag. To do so, the globalists must keep the rich politicians fat, drunk and wealthy with perceived power. The globalists must own all the political parties and keep the games tame. Otherwise the politicians will create power with their military.

After the war, someone has to rebuild. Cue the globalists once again. Remember, when the rich wage war it's the poor that die.

Out here in the Pacific Northwest they've been gearing up for those little "tribes" ever since God told them to go West 40 years ago. Now, 40 years later, according to the Prophecy, the first generation (paging grace slick) of the chosen people are dying off as God wanted. And Moses (or was it Tim Leary?) has gone up to the Mountain to receive the good Word for the youngsters. When he returns he'll find them in the desert worshiping a burning man (oops I mean a golden calf), and it will all start over again....one generation got old, one generation got sold, this generation's got no destination to hold. It's in all the religious texts, it's an age old story, and it's being played out in the past 40 years once again.

me? I'll be sitting up on a mountain somewhere near the Gorge, watching it all come crashing down. High as a kite of course, and ready to fly off to Jupiter if I can make it that far. just gotta dry out these wings I'm working on...

Absolutely. If we proles are kept busy arguing amongst ourselves by the politicians, we fail to note the mischief wrought by the oligarchs who actually run things.

Dadzilla, agreed 100%. go check out the "who will be a candidate in 2012" thread. They're already arguing over there and talking "lib" this and that. At least one of those dudes may be dead by the time 2012 comes around, but they're occupied for now, and that keeps them happy. Like mutts with an old bone to chew. Just keep them occupied.

papa, maybe you ought to educate yourself a bit on Monsanto before you say stuff like that. You clearly haven't. Start by looking at how many farmers (the people that feed us) have lost EVERYTHING to this company because they did NOT buy their seed. Open your eyes bro. Your food is owned by the same company. let me say that again. your FOOD is controlled by ONE SINGLE company. a company that puts kill genes in their seeds to kill the plants before they can seed.

imagine that, a gene in the dna of foodstuffs that tells it to die before it reaches "old age" a gene that causes a cancer to infect the plant. you ingest that plant before the gene kicks in. guess what? now it's in YOUR body. waiting to flip the switch and start that cancer.

really dude. I'm asking you to please look into this. it's your body, not a business venture.

it's your food bro.

The three big players in genetic engineered seeds are Monsanto, Dupont, and Syngenta. Together they control about half the world's proprietary seed market.

Outside of the genetically modified proprietary seed market, there are still just regular good 'ole seeds. Maybe 10% of the world's crops use genetically modified proprietary seeds.

Genetically modified crops are increasing yields and helping solve world hunger and the super-serial threat from Monsanto as described is highly fictional. The kill gene originated from a company that Monsanto acquired. It has not gone into production. More fiction.
