that toby and i drove to vegas in 1964, well not the exact one but exactly the same color, before freeways went from everyone's front door to las vegas blvd.

dead of night, top down, hills and dales, almost flat out, scarf trailing in the breeze, always passing, never passed, $35.00 dollars in my pocket for the weekend, is it any wonder toby loves me.

Nice buggy, Rick ... I've wanted one of those most of my life now ... forest greed would be my first choice of color, but if I had the red one in front of me, I'd not even blink before saying yes ...

In answer to your question ... no wonder at all.

A great car, with its share of quirks. I owned the earlier edition of the TR-3 with the smaller grill, inherited from its TR-2 predecessor. Mine still had an emergency crank, just in case the starter or battery died; which did happen frequently. When I bought mine, the interior was in serious need of repair, but fortunately I had a friend who did rolled and pleated interiors as a hobby. When I left for Vietnam in 1968, I left the car in the care of my older brother. In case I didn't return, I signed the title over to him. When I returned home, the car was gone. During the thirty-three years that have passed, my brother has never volunteered what happened to the Triumph, and I have no desire to ask.

when I was a kid, my dad had a TR-2. Very similar, but no door handles, and a recessed grill. His was red, but had it painted charcoal grey. He traded it in on a new Ramber American lol.

how small the world. the day after we found out toby was pregnant, i traded the tr3 in on a 64 rambler american, 4 door family car, and never got another convertable until 1984.

I was quite forcefully struck by a sudden realization ... I've gone back and checked some old picture posts of a guy with some hummingbirds and others of a guy with his cooleradors ... read and consider the following two posts, look at those old pics and you tell me ...

Seperated at Birth?????

Danny writes above that when he was a kid, his dad had a Triumph, but traded it in on new Rambler ...

Rick later responds that he and Toby had a Triumph, but traded it in on a Rambler ...

go check those pics and you tell me ... am I onto something or am I just completely nuts?

Rick, this reminds me soooooooooo much of my first car!

My dad said that if I kept up a solid A grade point average he'd buy me ANY car! This coming from a man that owned a Porsche,Audi,VW dealership.

It took me several report-cards to achieve the desired results, and upon many stealthy missions by my father to check up on me he'd shipped several 944's in various colors(fully loaded!) to his shop. He was shocked to know that I wanted to go to 3 junkyards to purchase 3 cars to make one.

The car was a '67 Austin-Healey Sprite. Black metal-flake paint job with spoke wire rims. The hardest part to acheive was the slider rear-view mirror and luggage rack.

I know exactly what you mean about not being the fastest car, but feeling the speed! I sold that car for a 1985 TR-7 that ended up with a 287 under the hood. I wish I still had that car!

damn jokes NEVER work as well when you have to 'splain 'em, but here we go ... my joke above was too obscure ... no one including Rick, got it ... we'll try it again, but it ain't gonna be as good this way ...

Danny said his folks used to own a TR, but swapped it in on a Rambler ...

Rick said he and Toby used to own a TR, but swapped it in on a Rambler ...

I said I'd looked at the pics of Rick and the hummingbirds and had looked at the pic of Dan with his cooleradors and wondered if I was the only one who thought there might be a family connection ...

made in england, mostly by hand, in a small shop, by people that loved the car.

A grand automobile, yes I agree. However it is still produced by entrepreneur types ,much more Republican ideals than Democrat:-).Besides most of my family on my mother side would take great offense at the implied refernce that Motor city employees do not take pride in their product. You see they work for Ford and GM .

The referene to Big businness was just to play with your sensibilities.I am sure you have plenty of products produced by many big businesses like cigars( very exploitive at times,oh noooo).Besides the maufactorers of the car while not as big as GM and Ford still had a fine production with your rare but not alone bueaty.I really do appreciate it however.
You have a good day
