I just watched part of a documentary on the discovery
or history channel, but after a half an hour had to stop it.

Infrastructure is an occasional discussion on many channels
both the left and the right, but seeing a few bridges coming
apart and foundations crumbling and the ages of the Brooklyn
bridge over 100 years old, he George Washington bridge
new York over 50 years old, and the discussion by the
engineers that these were not built to last 50 years without
constant maintenance, health care, union rights, who kills
gadaffi, and the national debt makes me aware once again
how poorly this country is run.

we are physically falling apart. we have old roads that look
like a third world country road, and we are still dicking
around with Amtrak, while other industrial nations have
speedy rail transportation.

is it the two party system that exploits the other party,
or is it the supreme that gave corporation the right to buy
congressman and senators to decrease taxes for business
and waste money building second engines for airplanes
that the military doesn't need or even want.

we need to get our country in order, and cutting funding
for NPR, isn't important enough to waste time talking about.

catholics are the nations largest religious group and 70%
of catholics don't give a damn if two guy or two girls get
married and other then some of the hierarchy of the church,
the guys that didn't throw out the pedophiles, most catholics
don't care one way or the other about birth control or abortion.

I think people would like to drive to work over a bridge that
doesn;t have holes in it so you can seethe water through the
roadway or carry a hammer so they can smash out a window
if thye bridge collapses and the car ends up in the water.

I completely agree with you on this one, Rick. I read something not too long ago that talked of "The Golden Age of America." When America actually built things. We had the biggest buildings, the best highway system, the greatest dams and bridges. The envy of the world instead of the laughingstock. Think about it.....when was the last time something got built in our country that all of America could look at and be proud of? The only things we seem to be good at building anymore are casinos and football stadiums. It's sad. We have become the homebuilder to the world while our own kids sleep in a lean-to. I really truly wish we could get some folks in office that would realistically look at our country for what it is becoming and focus their energy here at home. There is nobody in either party right now that will do that.

It's those people that want to sit on their asses and do nothing that I blame.

Don't hire the pros and get the job done...no...just jerryrig it the best you can and then sit around and watch the dust collect and the paint peel right off.

I mean, someone did it right the first time so it's good forever, right?

I did a search online of the bridges I commute over and under everyday, and found a site that catalogues all the bridges in the highway system, and rates their condition.(www.nationalbridges.com)
I found that one I drive under was in serious need of immediate repair, and one span over the Potomac at Harper's Ferry WV that was "obsolete". I called the Maryland DOT on the one smaller bridge I drive under, and pointed out that chunks of the concrete columns were FALLING OFF, and that I would certainly appreciate it if they would see to it that the dang thing didn't fall on my noggin on a Thursday evening slog home(although, in a way, it might be a relief...). They were setting up scaffolding the next week. Could be cooincidence, or maybe enough commuters looked up from texting to also call in concern.
The other bridge is now being examined and painted, although I did not call about it.

My goal of course, is to drive Bloody's state taxes up...again.

I know where we could find $3 billion per year in existing funds that be used for reconstruction in the USA.

Rick: Your Geritol must be working because I agree with you for the most part. We are on the road to destruction in more ways than one. I think we need to dump this two party system and try for something better because neither party has the best interests of the people or their country in mind. Most Reps vote for their lobbyists crap vice what the people want.

The whole thing sickens me......

How about no more than 2 successive terms for any politician at the state level or above, with a minimum 2 term break between? Seems to me a lot of the problem in both parties is the squatters at the top stay put too long, get comfy w/ campaign money dividends for services rendered, forget their ideals and the needs of the constituencies. Let them taste normalcy. And it would circulate new blood, fresh ideas into the staid system.
If aspiring politicians actually felt there was an honest shot at the top positions, with elections that don't always pit them with heavy favorites who have bottomless campaign coffers, how many more people with realistic plans and ideas might get involved?

Meh. All we are seeing is the remains of the rise and the slowly oncoming, inevitable fall of a nation. The U.S.has a lot of time left, but it just can't be what it once was (or might have been) for ever...

Exactly. All empires eventually fail. We just happen to be the last colonial empire still standing. The longer we try to prolong it, the harder the fall.

Look at all of us... we complain on a forum but what do we really do? or what can we do? i write my politicians but they dont care. There is no accountability for their actions and the majority of americans are too complacement with their SUVs, football, etc to care. I expect a collapse in the next 10-20 years. We give out aid to countries undserving, we fight wars for chinese assets, or loan money to other countries so they can find assets for china. the whole world will fall. the population is exploding too fast and there are no controls or concerns for it.

It is sad that I was able to experince a good amount of America rising only to now, it seems to live to see it's demise.
What kind of world is my son going to inherit? How could we ruin the american dream in one generation? Whay did we do?
How could we?

Rick, I no longer give a damn. As some of the botl have stated so clearly- what's the use? We are a basically a good (albeit overweight) people with an inflated sense of self, altruistic/naive intent, short memory, and a small wallet- except for watchurai of course.

Just get your house in order & look forward to an eternity of bliss. If this temporal mess is all you've got, I feel sorry for you (not necessarily directed at you per se, Ricardo). Btw, your weed, er, clinging vines seem to be adapting...

'A problem is never solved with the same minds or style of thinking from which it was caused'. - Albert Einstein

Look, if a group of people in a cigar forum can take a little time out of their days, think a minute or two, and make excellent suggestions on how to fix what's wrong with America...why won't the full time people we hire (elect) to do the work of the people get the job done?

Quick answer: 'Follow the Money'

The slide for America started when we discovered that we can receive cash from the US treasury that will be paid by future generations. Once a ponzi starts, it must end poorly. We legalized theft and corruption.

i started with lipitor and it dropped my cholesterol by over 70 points, but like you i had no muscle
strength and a liver panel showed it was screwing up my liver.

my cardiologist finally switched me to Crestor (Rosuvastatin) and my cholesterol dropped almost
as low as the lipitor with no muscle problems and a deccent liver panel.

zetia is another drug that is excellent. if prevents the cholesterol from being reabsorbed in the
colon and does not affect the liver which is the cause of the muscle weakness or pain.

i don't know if co-q-10 does any good, but it's so damn cheap, it doesn't matter.

i had a heart attack in the early 8o's and found a top notch cardiologist and i had a 4 way by pass
6 or 7 years ago. he has given me all that extra time and i'm till cooking

if you are getting your advice from a gp, find the best board certified cardiologist and listen to him.

if you need a stress test with a radioactive tracer, they don't us a treadmill any more, it can be
done pharmocologically.

http://tech.snmjournals.org/cgi/content/full/37/1/14

my bp is usually 70 max over 110

how the hell do you think i've lasted this long with all the crap i post and the response i get.

good luck

if you are enjoying life and the companionship with a wife for 44 years,
have two sons that you are proud of, and look forward to tomorrow, yes.

in your case, perhaps not.
