Cigar with a friend

As I got myself a drink and a cigar for New Years Eve, I kept looking at the Indian statues I had on the stand. I was thinking this would be another NYE drinking home alone until I grabbed the one statue and decided, "no I'm not."

So I got out a cigar gifted to me by a fine brother, poured a beer, and thought about the loss of a friend I never met. I sent out 2009 thinking of a cigar friend going into rehab to try to get his life back together, and spent the end of 2010 thinking of a friend whose journey has moved to the next level. I hope they have both found peace.

Rest in Peace my brother, and know we will herf again.

yep.
I know he wasn't native American, but this is how I see him. Funny thing, is I have had these figures for a year or two and never thought twice about it. But while thinking of what to do that night, it hit me that the statue made me think of Big Chief.

It also reminded me how much I appreciate the friendships I have made with many of my cigar smoking brethren and to not take it for granted.

You know you are always welcome Ron. It has been my pleasure that you and Cooper have taken the time to spend with me and my family.
I have a beer that has been aging for a year with your name on it. And trust me, I don't think you have had one unless you stopped to herf with gonesledn.

I miss Brother Big Chief, and really appreciate that you posted this pic and story. There are 8 Brothers that I knew, traded with, or atleast had a PM or 2 with that have passed on since I joined Cbid and a few other boards. May they all rest in peace and hopefully they are herfing together.

Indian wisdom see moral in story: Do not meet, smoke peace pipe with, trade with, return PMs or smoke signals from smelly unless you like idea of joining great spirit soon.

That's my best impersonation of what Keith probably would have said about your post. :)

Lou,

IIRC he was like 1/8, whatever the minimum was to qualify for being able to legally claim it.

Glad you seen this Adam. Sorry it took so long to get it posted, but I would keep thinking about what I wanted to say and it would sound stupid in my head. So when the Big Chief threads got topped, I put it as simply as I could and got it up.

No apologies necessary my friend, very few of us can write something like that and not wonder to ourselves if it sounds stupid when, in reality, it's probably fine. Thanks for posting, it was a very nice tribute.

I did not have a tag from who on it, but figured I had to get it at a MMMer herf from either you or Sledn. I believe it was the first MB1 I have smoked, and it was excellent. And those are the types of times a special cigar is meant for me to smoke.

I did a search to top this for NYE, and you had already brought it back. Thanks Mike.

We are having some people over for New Years Eve this year, a friend that went through a double mastectomy this last summer and her husband. So the thoughts will still be for a better place for someone in the coming year. And Big Chief will be looking over us, both of them.
