Every time I light up a smoke, I pine for a place where I could relax in a big leather chair INSIDE, where my wife won't complain about the smell, and where I could sit around B.S.ing with a bunch of fellow 'gar smokers about how good this particular cigar tastes. Is the English club concept dead or could it possibly be resurrected here in the states? I am tired of freezing my ass off smoking outside underneath the 100 watt light bulb.

I'm all for that. How about your house?
Ruth's Chris Steak houses usually have a cigar room, but it'll cost you plenty to hang there.

I found a perfect place here in Fresno CA. Club Habanos. Just as you describe. Big overstuffed leather chairs, big screen TV, pool table, darts. Big walk through humidor section as you enter (in case you forgot to bring your own and have a spare 10 or 20 bucks.

I don't know how this place has avoided the smoke police but they have. I asked the clerk once, and she said "Club Habanos is an exclusive Members Only establishment. We allow the public to enter to sample the atmosphere as many times as they want. That way they can decide over a period of time, if they want to become members."

Kind of a sneaky way around. One of the bartenders said he is paid $120 a day to restock the liquor cabinet and sweep the floors after the place is closed and there is no more smoking in the building. He works as the bartender on his own time and is not on the payroll when the place is open.

Rayder,

Fantastic! My brother-in-law lives in Fresno. Now I have a reason to visit him! I'm packing my travel humidor right now. How much does it cost to be a member?

Free. Just walk in. I never asked how much. I think members are the ones who rent private humidors. They have a ton of Fuentes they might have an Opus lying around. Friday and Saturday nights it is a zoo.

couple of spots up here in the SF Bay Area that come pretty close to what you mention ... I've been thinking of a way to create a little personal space along these lines ... it'll be a few $$, but what the hell ... I'll have to let you know when I get it done and have you in to help me inaugurate it ...

There is just such a place in Nashua, NH. The people are real nice. You can sit in barber chairs and stuff.

Old? ... more than likely not. I might believe you if you said your English ancestors were now old or if you admit that it'd been your intention to tell us that you'd USED Old English when polishing some furniture ...

I'm in So Cal.I have quite a few that are cigar friendly on the patio.Indoors we have a Havana Club at Maximars in Orange, right down the street is Prime Time Sports Bar we smoke inside there, not sure how he got around the smoking ban but god bless him he did.
There's Tobacco Barn on El Toro blvd he has a little smoking area/room but he dosen't seem all that friendly, his prices are way high(even for Cali) and I've never seen anybody in there. There's a new place opening down the street also so I'm real interested in checking that out.

In Ny (Manhattan) there are plenty of cigar friendly places. One of the best is "The Gingerman". 150 beers on tap(they have a beer menu!) and a nice cigar lounge with big chairs, couch's, and cigars (at steep prices) if you don't have your own. It's located at 11 E. 36th st.(between 5th & Madison). Problem is I live out on Long Island where their ain't s**t!!! So once and awhile I will make the trek into NYC. Otherwise, it's under the 100 watt light bulb for me too!!!

I live in Virgina Beach, VA. It is hard enough to find a good cigar shop. I only know of 2. I mainly use one because the owner's husband is a Navy Pilot, so she gives the military a %10 discount. They also have a website (unmentioned), and if you buy a box of gars in the store, they give you the internet price, a full %20 discount. That being said, my original thought is that there is nowhere around here to enjoy a nice smoke inside except for a local bar or a go-go club. I prefer the latter.
