Debunking Lib idol John Stewart

So we have three Pew studies that superficially rank Fox viewers low on the well-informed list, but in several of the surveys, Fox isn’t the lowest, and other general-interest media outlets -- such as network news shows, network morning shows and even the other cable news networks -- often score similarly low. Meanwhile, particular Fox shows -- such as The O’Reilly Factor and Sean Hannity’s show -- actually score consistently well, occasionally even outpacing Stewart’s own audience.

Meanwhile, the other set of knowledge surveys, from worldpublicopinion.org, offer mixed support for Stewart. The 2003 survey strikes us as pretty solid, but the 2010 survey has been critiqued for its methodology.

The way Stewart phrased the comment, it’s not enough to show a sliver of evidence that Fox News’ audience is ill-informed. The evidence needs to support the view that the data shows they are "consistently" misinformed -- a term he used not once but three times. It’s simply not true that "every poll" shows that result. So we rate his claim False.

Jon Stewart is a comedian.

Not a really great one at that.

News source?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RwyUdBp-cck#at=10

Ummm...he can be seen nightly on Comedy Central...why you'd want to devote your time to watch the guy is your problem not mine. Why you'd want to watch the news at all is the bigger issue.

If you're going to watch the news to be informed then ALL American outlets fail miserably to say...the BBC. Even that's got it's limits. The snippet mentality that Americans have is numbing. They talk down to the robots watching the talking heads with 3-4 minute bursts followed by OpEd reasoning. The BBC will devote 15-20 minutes of a show to cover all the bases of an issue...see the difference?

No, you don't...most will still watch the alphabet soup or Comedy Central for their news.

The Daily Show sucked azz..... Jon Stewart sucks even more... and between the OP and Fuzzs post, I feel back in school taking those aweful true/false tests that have 1 word in it that makes it either way...its crap..who cares..people bitch about too much and get their feeligs hurt too quickly and dont see who to fix what is obviously wrong. I dont watch news programs cause it is always the bad stuff being paraded on the TV. The play the court stuff about that mental girl that killed her baby and her mental family and they shou stuff from long time ago and talk about it over and over and over and over.

[/end senseless babble]

Fox New is well spun hate-monging propaganda. It is always “here is why you should be scared” and “look what they are doing to you”. And some people just love it – it feels so good having someone tell you who the enemy is and why to hate them.

The O’Reilly Factor and Sean Hannity’s show are a kind of intelligence test – if you think they are fair and balanced then you failed the test – an you are easily manipulated.

Scary how many Americans actually see this as news and not opinions. And you’ll never get them to see it, because it’s what they want to hear.

I agree. It is an intelligence test. If you think it's news you're a moron, if you think it's OpEd you can pass go and collect $200.00!

Yeah...scary. Be afraid...tune in tomorrow though because you just know deep down you're hoping for them to mention your name!

For the past thirty years, David Mamet has been a controversial and defining force in theater and film, championing the most cherished liberal values along the way. In some of the great movies and plays of our time, his characters have explored the ethics of the business world, embodied the struggles of the oppressed, and faced the flaws of the capitalist system.

But in recent years Mamet has had a change of heart. He realized that the so- called mainstream media outlets he relied on were irredeemably biased, peddling a hypocritical and deeply flawed worldview. In 2008 he wrote a hugely controversial op-ed for The Village Voice, "Why I Am No Longer a 'Brain- Dead Liberal,'" in which he methodically eviscerated liberal beliefs. Now he goes much deeper, employing his trademark intellectual force and vigor to take on all the key political and cultural issues of our times, from religion to political correctness to global warming. A sample:

The problems facing us, faced by all mankind engaged in Democracy, may seem complex, or indeed insolvable, and we, in despair, may revert to a state of wish fulfillment-a state of "belief" in the power of the various experts presenting themselves as a cure for our indecision. But this is a sort of Stockholm Syndrome. Here, the captives, unable to bear the anxiety occasioned by their powerlessness, suppress it by identifying with their captors.

This is the essence of Leftist thought. It is a devolution from reason to "belief," in an effort to stave off a feeling of powerlessness. And if government is Good, it is a logical elaboration that more government power is Better. But the opposite is apparent both to anyone who has ever had to deal with Government and, I think, to any dispassionate observer.
