More Americans were living in poverty in 2010 than at any time since at least the 1950s, with the overall poverty rate climbing to 15.1 -- a 6 percent jump in just one year -- according to Census figures released Tuesday.

In unrelated news, the "Re-elect Obama" campaign is in full swing!

No but only a partisan hack would not recognize that he does share a pretty good chunk of the blame.

That said, there is an easy fix. Cut the poverty level in half. Overnight prosperity! Easy peasy.

The poverty level is the highest it's been in decades.

In other news: Americans are obese, and new cell phone surcharges will make it difficult for those on welfare to keep their third smartphone while traveling abroad.

Since I've been and voted Libertarian since '96, does that make me a partisan hack? Oh, that’s right, it makes me a “stoner” partisan hack. Dancing And of course Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae, as well as the "Making Housing Affordable Act", staunchly backed by the same Dems that blame Bush for all our problems, even when warned over and over again about the coming crash, and refusing to act to prevent it, have no blame in this at all.

Overnight prosperity? If Obummer had kept his finger up his a*s where it belonged, instead of trying to micro manage the economy, we'd be out of this by now, and stronger then ever.

Doubt it...

Jim Cramer, CNBC host: "Now let's talk about the fact that you said the economy is weak. You put out a jobs plan. The New York Times today basically gives its obituary. 'Tax plan for jobs bill.' Familiar ring. Meaning the GOP will not back this. Is this dead on arrival?"

Tim Geithner, U.S. Secretary of Treasury: "Absolutely not. I think that there's no reason now for the Congress of the United States not to act to help strengthen growth in the near term. It's the conservative, prudent, responsible thing to do. You can think of it as protection against Europe."

Cramer: "Okay."

Geithner: "You can think of it as insurance against weaker growth going forward. And you got to think about the alternatives. If Congress or Washington is incapable of acting, then policy will be damaging to growth because what you'll have is a deeper, steeper contraction in fiscal support than is prudent for an economy at this early stage of the crisis given the shocks we face. You know, life is about choices. Life is about alternatives."

Mr. Geithner said we have "some ways to go" to heal the country from the crisis that we are in.

"You have to keep at it. You say that we are going to continue to do whatever we think will help get more people back to work, make the economy strong in the short term. Until we get definitively through this. And our basic strategy is to make sure we are healing the damage caused by this crisis and we have some ways to go as you know despite the improvement of the financial sector. And we want to make sure at the same time we're making this a better place to invest, make exports stronger and strengthen our long-term fundamentals," Geithner said.

I check with my local Tea Party rep – Americans living in poverty deserve it;

“ . . . .they don’t work hard enough. They could pull themselves up, but they would rather take money out of the pockets of decent hard working Christian Americans - because they hate the success that we have and the clean and righteous life style we live. The poor and unemployed and are simply un-American scum and hanging is too good for them . . . . “

Sad thing is...if they would have given every tax paying U.S. Citizen $1million we might be better off and out of recession right now. Not sure when our economy would end up having tanked if that was done

I'd like a million dollars handed to me .. no doubt... but I'd prolly keep on working and saving... I mean I'd pay stuff off and buy some toys but I would invest until it's time to retire... (prolly a little earlier)..
But how many people out there would just walk away from thier jobs...?? I'd bet a very high perentage would live off that million bucks till it was gone and then hold their hands out for more..... Mellow

I say we take the useless 1/3 who won’t work and put them on a space ship. If we simply got rid of everyone who is poor, it would all be good – although I not sure who would drive the cabs or clean the toilets . . . . . .

My zealot buddy tells me that the Bible says that “the poor will always be among up”. This really screws up my space ship plan.

I guess next time you’re angry or discussed at some sloth that won’t work, remind yourself; That’s the way the God of Abraham wanted it.

NASA doesn't have enough budget, unless you're proposing to privatize this.

As long as we create arbitrary definitions of "poor", "middle class", and "rich", getting rid of the current "poor" would just result in a bunch of "middle class" being redefined as "poor".

Getting rid of the lazy might be a better goal. There are plenty of hardworking "poor".

Proverbs 13:4
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

Proverbs 15:19
The way of a sluggard is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a level highway.

Proverbs 12:24
The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.

That is why Obama had to use milk and honey. Have you seen the price of gold? The only way he would buy gold is if it was sold to him by a green energy company.
