THAT'S his problem...well, he has many but this is a recurring theme fo ManBearPig...er President Gor...er...sham flim-flam "Help me the sky is falling!" man Algore.

Al Gore's five loaves and two fishes
By James Delingpole Environment Last updated: September 21st, 2011

Not content with having invented the internet, the great Climate Science communicator Al Gore appears to have developed still more miraculous skills of late: the ability to turn 17,000 into 8.6 million – just like that.

The figures refer to the number of "views" for Gore's special "24 Hours Of ManBearPig" which this column helped celebrate the other day. Gore claims that as many as 8.6 million flocked to his thrilling festival of climate fear; but a nasty cruel man called Charles the Moderator at Watts Up With That? has "done the math" and reckons the figure is probably more like 17,000. And that, he believes, is a generous estimate. (H/T John from CA).

So whom are we to trust? An evil climate denying website run by evil climate deniers? Or a loving family man who has selflessly made it his mission to travel the world acquiring as large a carbon footprint as possible in order to spread the word that we should all drastically reduce our carbon footprints?

I'm with Gore, obviously. Not only has his knowledge and insight proved hugely influential on our own beloved Prime Minister's climate policies – "I've just had a meeting with Al Gore. He really knows his stuff", David Cameron once told a distinguished businessman who'd come hoping for a quiet word about his economically disastrous environmental policies – but it's quite obvious that he really is a man with the power to work miracles.

Just look, for example, at the magical way he has managed to make his fortune grow. In 2000, the year he lost the presidential election, he was worth a modest $1-2 million. Now his fortune has swollen to well over $100 million, thanks to partly to his $100,000 plus speaking engagements (which have earned him at least $10 million) and partly to his canny green investment decisions (such as his decision to pull his investments out of the Chicago Carbon Trading exchange before it collapsed due to global lack of interest in trading an Emperor's New Clothes commodity invented by Enron's Kenneth Lay and championed by an even dodgier Hawaiian/Kenyan born Chicago lawyer).

Not everyone, unfortunately, seems to share my enthusiasm. Indeed it is being whispered in some quarters that Al Gore has become nothing but an embarrassment to the green movement. And this from some of his former biggest fans!

It would appear that the strain was more than he could bear...LOL!!! Why who could forget the walking t00l when he and Bubba went to Monticello as part of their sweeping coronation to the White House where he pointed up at one of the busts and exclaimed "Who are these people?" and the curator had to tell him that it was George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Marquis de Lafayette!!!

http://whatreallyhappened.com/RANCHO/POLITICS/gore_statues.au

So, of course we put up with his Supreme Court chicanery and let him and his legal staff try to hijack a Presidential election. Alas, he wasn't the winner. Never was and there have been morons that still claim Bush "stole" an election despite the clear irrefutable facts otherwise! Then comes the whole "Global Warming" grab the money and run heist. His crowning achievement next to his lifelong mission "Until I draw my last breath, I will pour my heart and soul into the cause of protecting our children from the dangers of smoking.". A real Chicken Little fairy tale that's made him FILTHY rich but once again...Algore has a trouble with numbers. Numbers that just aren't there. Numbers he believes are and will prove him correct but was he left by the side of the road...again...like a bag of garbage...stinking up the place. Whose Reality is it Anyway?

Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project claims 8.6 million views of their presentations during their “24 hours of reality”. Let’s examine that claim.

On Facebook, they had around 66,000 people “accepting” the invitation to attend.

Let’s look at the Alexa stats for traffic rank on that day and compare it to a site we have access to more detailed information.

Alexa traffic rank
Eyeballing, it appears that on 9/15/2011, climaterealityproject.org had between 5 and 6 times as much traffic as wattsupwiththat.com.

Let’s convert Alexa’s traffic rank to numbers of people.

quantcast visitor numbers
On 9/15/2011 according to quantcast, wattupwiththat.com had 27.9 thousand global visitors. Unfortunately, the climaterealityproject.org doesn’t show up in quantcast, for 9/15/2011, so we will have to estimate.

Being generous with the Alexa rank ratio between sites, let’s multiply 27.9 thousand times 6, which gives us about 167,000 global visitors for Al Gore’s big party on 9/15/2001

Now going back to Alexa, here is the fun statistic.

time on site
The average time on site for climaterealityproject.org is about 3 minutes on 9/15/2011. So for everyone who stayed for an hour there were maybe 30 or so who left after a minute which is normal for boring video. The distribution can vary, maybe some stayed for for 5 minutes or 10, but it doesn’t look good.

Let’s be generous with this as well and say that 1 in 10 stayed around to watch a significant amount of the program. That means there may have been about 17,000 dedicated viewers (estimating on the high side) of the program worldwide.

Now, maybe I’m totally wrong, maybe the Facebook application put this presentation in peoples’ newsfeeds and they watched inside of Facebook. I didn’t install the Facebook ap so I don’t know if it did that. Can anyone confirm? Maybe it showed up in Facebook friends’ newsfeeds and that was enough for Gore and company to call it a view, even if it was never played.

Maybe all the users took the alternate path of going directly to Ustream.

Or maybe, just maybe, there’s a little bit of storytelling going on and perhaps the numbers are a wee bit inflated.

Depends on your reality I guess.

If we can't trust the man who single handedly invented the Internet, who is left that we can trust?

I wouldn't have any problems with numbers if I was worth $100 million myself.
