That's right, you read right – morality is changeable and context sensitive. If you ever heard of “Moral Absolutes”, well that was a metaphor . . . . .

'Thou shalt not kill” means don't murder. But murder is only murder when most people think it is wrong. If the state pays you to kill – it's not really murder, is it?

Each of us judges for ourselves – or defers judgment to our teachings.

But in the end – our morality is the one we choose for ourselves – there are no absolutes.

Execution may be immoral for you – but not for others, who think it is right as rain.

Thats the secular humanist slant...

Right is right,wrong is wrong...

There really is no gray area...

it's a way of saying "How dare YOU judge me"

that's all..

but in all our quietest of moments we all really know what's right and wrong...

It is in fact a widely held philosophical truism – outside of religious dogma.

See the world in absolutes if you please. For me, my karma ran over my dogma . . . .

call it dogma if you please..

There is most certainly moral absolutes.

One who doesn't accept this when taken to the extreme is a sociopath..

You may have, believe in, and teach any number of moral absolute. But these very with the person and the culture. If there were absolutes, would not we all agree on abortion, apartheid, botox . . . .

BTW – Is it not a moral imperative of your beliefs to judge everyone? Picking on the poor Humanists - Shame on you

My beliefs,,
Humans are imperfect. Therefore capable of terrible things. But, I also believe there is a small piece of perfection in us all..
We all judge people everyday, even you..

We all know what is right, whether we admit it to anyone but ourselves...

remember,
you can't lie to yourself..

Right on Bro – I judge people every time a pay them some mind. I just try to remember that we all have our own standards and opinions. And that while to me, I am was right as is possible (more so when I drink) I could be less than perfectly right in the end.

I recon if we listen to ourselves, we most always know what is right for any given happening.

Not to split hairs, but I have been enormously successful lying to myself. That is how I'm so damn handsome.

Funny thing about that – My wife tells me I am a most handsome man. Gorgeous in most all respects and a real looker. Attractive and all.

Now, I would never call my wife a liar . . . . .

Speaking of hot chicks, my tatted up, degreed, Harley bike riding, super long legged wife and I are about to celebrate “the big one”. Hard to explain, but for us, our 11th anniversary has a special meaning.

I didn't get married until I was 38. Knew lots of women, live with a few, but never connected rightly. One lost night sitting in a bar called Willhoites (you might know the place Wheel) one of my controls engineers show up with this long legged, black dress wearing, piece of calico that I could not take my eyes off of. You know the story of how their beautiful and lovely until they open their mouth? Well this time it went the other way.

The short story is she never met a man who had the meddle to be with her more than 10 years. When we married, she said she just wanted to the our 11th anniversary.

We were married 11/11/00. And on 11/11/11 we will be marred 11 years to the day.

So come November 11th, raise your glass to the engineer and school teacher who finally found the right person.

Life is good.
