These fine Women Marines are two of our regular targets at OpFTH - they're USMC corpsman in Afghanistan - and any Marine will tell you that a corpsman is better than a doctor when you really need them. Favorite cigars include Maker's Choice Vanilla, and other flavored and non-flavored medium bodied cigars. They also appreciate coffee, snacks and other goodies. PM me if you'd like to send something special for this unit! -B

Elementary school I would guess.

At least, that would be a true statement when I was deployed...

Just to be clear here, the young lady on the left with the alphabet soup last name is Navy. The Marine Corps does not have its own medical branch. They are augmented by the Navy.

That's what I always thought too, but she said she is both a corpsman and a US Marine. And in another photo that she sent me, the tape opposite her name says US Marine Corps. All the Navy Corpsman that I worked with had USN on their tape. Regardless, she's out there taking care of Marines and serving our country and deserves our support. -B

I was *this* close to explaining all that, and then decided it for 85% of the population it's a detail that doesn't really matter. Besides, I had a joke lined up. Herfing

I can tell you for sure that she is an HM2 (SW) USN. Marine Corps correctly identified earlier does not, and never has had a dedicated corpsmen field. As the fleet marine Corpsman possess special credentials and are often deployed in country with the Marine units they are required (and proudly) wear Marine identification.

Correction, she is an HM3 (SW) my old friggin eyes playing tricks on me again. fog

I'm glad we got that settled. And thanks, Chief, for your PM and incoming donation! You and others of us know what it's like to get (or not get) a care package!

I just got an email from Shannon Caltagirone: "Thank-you so much for yet another fabulous care package! You are amazing and I cannot thank-you enough. ~ Shannon" She also sent another photo, which I'll post. -B

That is a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) pin, not an ESWS. So, she is actually HM3(FMF) FWIW.

The HM3 on the left is affectionately known as Doc C-17, count the letters in her last name.
Beth, thank you for taking care of them through OpFTH, I told her you would when I gave her your info. I actually got to sample some of the first package you sent her.
And to put the uniform issue to rest, Fleet Marine Forces Corpsmen, those attached to Marine Corps units, are authorized to wear Marine Corps uniforms, cammies and Service Alphas, the green ones. In cammies, they do infact have the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on the left breast pocket but above the pocket, it says U.S. Navy.

Once again, thank you Beth.

@Smoke - wrong. Check the picture again. The silver cutlass' are signifying Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification. I am certain she has FM quals too since she is supporting a deployed Marine unit. But that is definitely ESWS

Dang, Navy enlisted ranks and ratings are entirely too complicated. Army is much simpler. Good for a dumb guy like me. Air Force is even easier still... just call them all by their first name, regardless of rank. LOL

Sorry Chief, you lost this one. Smoke is right, it is the FMF pin. Along with aircrew wings and the expeditionary pin, it is the only pin Navy personnel are allowed to wear while wearing Marine cammies. Look closely and you can see the Eagle,Globe and Anchor in the center with two crossed rifles in the background with the words Fleet Marine Forces between the butts of the rifles.

My bust Damn! My eyes are older than I think they are fog Before I blew it up to 300% it sure looked like an ESWS pin. In any case the ladies should have some smokes headed their way this week after Beth gets a delivery from a couple of my wins. Nothing special, but it beats smoking dog rockets

I got an email from Shannon - she's read your comments and will try to sign up here and post soon, but bad internet connections make it hard for her to do that.

Two more big boxes went out to her this morning! To contribute to the next shipment, PM me. -Beth
