Never knew him, but he was a regular here, and from other's posts, he was a member of this community until he "disappeared." He isn't listed on the members roster, so his departure is kind of mysterious...

Went to Laguna Seca with son and his family, daughter and future SIL, and a buncha other friends, to watch the American Le Mans races. Great times, close and exciting races.

That does sound pretty exciting, up close racing, and that style as well. How close can you get to the Corkscrew, and other turns as a spectator?

All spectators can go everywhere on the course. We park next to the hairpin about 50 feet from the track, and set up for a tailgate party and then wander around the track all day. We get there early in the morning when the ALMS cars line up for their warm-ups and get an up close look at all the cars. Amazing machines! Drivers and crew are available in the paddocks during the day, before the race.

Not really into the modern nascar or much racing, LOVED the Richard Petty days!

BUT, THAT sounds like a BLAST, I would really enjoy that, more Grand Prix style, and up close, sort of like at the Horse track!

got to walk on the INdy 500 track, as a kid, that was cool, got to walk out on the high bank and all back in the 70's, wonder if they still have that option.

I loved the days of Petty, Bobby and Davey Allison, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Waltrip, Baker, Wallace, Yarborough, and the others. Not so much in the last 10+ years.

Back in the 80's a buddy of mine would get 100 tickets for each Bristol race at $75 and sell them instantly for $200 to a broker in GA. He was making $25,000 a year on those two races alone.

Rusty Wallace and a few other drivers would always come out and play my golf course during Bristol race week and then we would go have 2 or 12 beers. He is a great guy to hang out with.
