"I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."

I know many radical right-wingers disagree (until they find out who wrote it).

College kids are too young to have a political philosophy.

What does this Thomas Jefferson quote have to do with Barry and company trying to scrap our Constitution and turn us into a bankrupt European style Socialist nation? If you think that this somehow proves that our Founding Fathers would agree with the crap going on in our government today, then it just shows how naive you really are.

That's OK kid. Once you're out in the REAL world for a while, you'll quickly abandon all these "feel good" college ideals you're currently brain washed with. Well, unless you become a "kept" stay at home dad, living in a gated community, with nothing better to do all day then bake cookies and read liberal blogs.

#2 and 3 nailed it.

Besides the only people that hate Jefferson is the Left...especially Rick!

Ray, you think you have all the answers. You're holding an empty bag and everyone can see it BUT you.

Take any quote to shoehorn in some point you think you're making isn't doing a damn thing. If Jefferson could see the mess that's been made with his grand "experiment" he'd grab a rope and start hanging people for treason! The very same people you think are inept, Jefferson would understand and be social with.

Wow!!!

A single quote that best sums up his philosophy and you are jumping down his throat and calling him names? He's young and in college and, therefor has no clue about things? For crying out loud! He just might be a registered Republican or a Libertarian party member...

I'm a business student, not a political science major, we never talk politics lol. Also, I never said anything about current;y whats going on (I dislike current prez like the rest of you). just a simple quote that shouldn't have any more put into it than it already has.

I think its entertaining to see how people react to this though, it was exactly how I thought people would react.

How in God's name do you know what I think? I am entitled to my beliefs and never for a second do I think that's the only answer haha. I'm pretty direct with what I think, not sure how you guys add little extras about me.

So what permanent changes do you think ought to be made to our laws & Constitution due to our advanced "enlightment"?

Thank you for pointing this out, fenster- I hate it when someone tries to negate someone's entire comment by attacking the person, not the idea.

A couple of comments...

Of course he can't spell philopophy. He's a business student.

Of course he is a Republican. He's a business student.

Of course he expected all these responses. They should be shown to friends and family for a good laugh or used for a thesis paper.

"Young" people usually have all the perfect answers.
A few decades of seasoning usually beats that out of them and then humility/reality sets in...

The "argument" is often ad hominum abbusive and almost always a red herring fallacy.

Ever wonder what percentage of the people who fall back on the "you-don't kno-anything-because-your-in-college" actually went to a "real" college and lived in a true college/environment environment?

I always wonder if there was a drug invented by a college student that could save the life of someone fond the your-still-in-college "argument" would refuse to use it becuse the guy who discovered it is in college...

Well thought out answer. I don't try to change peoples minds on any subject. I do think its funny though to see people attack people for their thoughts though. (future reference, it doesn't make you sound credible, nor will it change the way someone thinks)

The best thing is to actually be there the moment the idealism crashes and burns and they come to that realization. It is almost like you can see their soul leaving their body.

Any one else care to put some thoughts of their political ideology? I'm assuming "f" America isn't all you guys have up your sleeves. (tends to be a common trend on this board on how we are all doomed). We're so blessed to live here, yet so many people are unsatisfied with anything that some one from an opposite party says.

No, no, please... why don't YOU educate us further with your insights on the board and on any changes you would make to the Constitution?

The problem with young idealists is that concept often clashes with practical reality.
The problem with us old foagies is that we usually know what to do but we compromise for practicality ($$$$).
