“Just when you thought the economic news could not get much worse with slow economic growth, with reduced wages because of higher costs, and with many people simply giving up looking for work with the lowest labor participation rate we’ve had in some time, we have an entirely predictable and preventable jobs crisis approaching in January, where because of the sequestration [automatic spending cuts], my state alone will lose 91,000 private sector jobs — and there are about a million private sector jobs at risk if the sequestration goes into effect on January 2."

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

Keynes would agree.

This wouldn't be the exact opposite of what Republicans have been saying, is it? Not again.

HALPERIN: You have a plan, as you said, over a number of years, to reduce spending dramatically. Why not in the first year, if you’re elected — why not in 2013, go all the way and propose the kind of budget with spending restraints, that you’d like to see after four years in office? Why not do it more quickly?

ROMNEY: Well because, if you take a trillion dollars for instance, out of the first year of the federal budget, that would shrink GDP over 5%. That is by definition throwing us into recession or depression. So I’m not going to do that, of course. What you do is you make adjustments on a basis that show, in the first year, actions that over time get you to a balanced budget.

Now that we've found out that Romney and Cornyn are communists too, where are we to turn? I can understand Romney, but Cornyn? How did the Reds get to him?

So... the status quo level of spending will keep the country from failing?????

I say make the cuts... Sure, it hurts for now... better than a slow bleed...

Of course, that reasoning comes from a producer...

Why should people seek work when they are paid so well to stay at home with cash and food. Want to get people back to work... quit extending/expanding unemployment and welfare.

Yes, lifestyles of the rich and unemployed. Luxuriating on their government checks on yachts feasting on lobsters the size of canoes. What a sweet gig.

For those who need to have it all spelled out for them, the 'conservatives' who have been demonizing Obama, Krugman and virtually every other economist about cuts/spending and its relationship to the economy are now saying the exact opposite, confirming that Obama et al position is correct and they know it and are just full of crap as usual.

Big lobsters are generally not very good (older and more full of chit; being bottom feeders.) Smaller, younger lobsters are better.
