Porper way to ask about someone's Trade rep?

Someone PM'd me about a trade for his 40 count glass top humidor that's never been used (won in a contest never opened) and all he wants is a 5er in return. They have 170 posts since last July but I've never seen this persons name in any threads before and am wondering what is the politest way to find out if this person has any kind of trade rep decent or otherwise. I'd be happy to PM the name to anyone who's up to date on who's been trading with who but I'd rather not post this persons name publicly and unintentionally smear a good persons name. Thanks.Herfing

and I know I've only been involved in 4 trades and haven't screwed trades up yet so I consider myself as someone who has at least a starting good rep as far as trades go. But I've never seen this person in a trade before, for all I know he has 100 good trades to his name but I haven't seen them.

He contacted you first He ships first

You did an ISO he answered you ship first

If either fails to do as they are supposed to you post the other nickname on the boards and flame him for others to see

Oh hell that answer was all wrong for what you asked

Ask him who he has traded with in a PM then PM them and ask unless it is me and don't ask anyone as they will all tell you

Sounds right to me. I've been frustrated over the years with trades. One time I waited over a 6 months to get my end of the trade sent to me. It was excuses, excuses, excuses. I even "outed" him and he still delayed sending his end of the trade. I was VERY PISSED. Frying pan

Have both parties send to me. Once both sides are received, I remove what I feel is appropriate for my services and send each party their respective end.

The way I do it is, if the other botl has been on here for years and seems solid, I volunteer to ship (or pay) first.
If the other party to the trade is a noob, I tell him to ship first.......and I offer to provide plenty of prior trade references.

All good so far.
