Democratic House candidate Alan Grayson said Monday he didn’t mean to offend anyone with his comments calling the Tea Party “the new Gestapo” after Republicans and others called on the former Congressman to apologize for and retract comments he made at a fundraiser.

Didn't copy right, sorry.

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage said Monday he didn’t mean to offend anyone with his comments calling the Internal Revenue Service “the new Gestapo” after Democrats and others called on the governor to apologize for and retract comments he made in his weekly radio address.

I think it would have worked if he'd been able to hold off on the link a little longer. He really was trolling for bigger fish.

lmao. Why not? wtf are you talking about?

Let's let the gas companies dictate what a gallon actually is. They'll take care of it honestly. Contracts? No need for the government to help enforce those!

What in the f*ck?

Well I think it's not the feds responsibility to do all that. It's the states. The states already have a bureau of weights and measures and what not. When the feds get into it they are just pissing away money.

Funny...I was going to call the IRS "tax Nazis" in the "16,000 new IRS agents" thread. I guess that could be offensive...if it weren't true. Figures the democrats would take offense to it.

I'm not sure of the dynamics occurring... but speaking of REAL American nazis, the IRS (NOT Tea Party) back in the 80's this ol' Reaganite boy was calling them nazi pigs right to their filthy faces in their own highrise offices located off Bailey's Crossroads (VA). You never saw a bigger collection of lying, parasitic, cowering bullies gathering in a dank shiithole. I was waiting for them to cart me off in cuffs. To this day I have little or no respect for them.

Funny thing is, two of my nearest neighbors work for the IRS. They're practically the only ones in the neighborhood who can still afford lavish home improvements...Think

Jpotts always made the same mistake. Fascists are on the polar opposite end of left wing. Sorry, right wing owns these bad guys, left wing owns bad guys like Stalin and Mao.

Comparing anything we hate today to Gestapo is really not understanding how deep evil can reach.

Although it is political suicide to make mention of nazi/hitler/gestapo etc for anything, I think people do over react.

It's been 70 years.

Apart from the holocaust deniers, we all know they were bad.

But invoking their names or terms does not mean that we think the comparison is "equal".
It's called hyperbole.
It's used to make a point.

At some point we have to learn to grasp the English language and understand how terms are used.
And if some get offended because their genocide was worse than your genocide, then too bad.

Note: living in a town labeled "Land of the Wompanoag" results in an annual reminder each independence day and again on Columbus day how evil we Americans of European decent truly are.

mundane example of how short comparisons here come compared to the horrors inflicted by Gestapo.
Everyone, more or less, hates the IRS. They have caused heartache and ruin, but so short of the comparison as to be "insulting". Perhaps it's hard to explain, it does always fail here.

you aren't wrong. perhaps it is a bit more sensitive to some than others. I, for one, am not hurt by this, just like to point out how easy it is to lessen original meaning of words from said English Language and therefore lessen their historical meaning/importance...creating a population of shoulder shruggers just 70 years later.

I'm not offended, not by this at least, but I get why some are. Again, I think your assessment is correct though.
Lets start calling bad political moments Potato Famines for a while, just to get a break from , you know. j/k

truly not bothered by the incident nor any posts here. Thanks though. I accept that very little is off limits here, and yet I am drawn a few times a day. I love making points once in a while, hope you aren't bothered either.
It's all good, thanks.
