Team USA's Opening and Closing Ceremony uniforms were made in China

On Tuesday, the US Olympic Committee officially unveiled
the threads Team USA will be wearing during the Opening and Closing Ceremony
Parade at the London Olympics this summer.
As usual, the uniforms have drawn mixed reviews. Similar to the way people
felt at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, some are saying they reek of military
propaganda while others appreciate the nostalgic feel of the navy blazers, white pants
and berets. Those are simply opinions, but the fact of the matter is the uniforms are
made in China. While they were designed in America by the famous Ralph Lauren himself,
the US athletes will be covered in head to toe with garments and accessories that are labeled
“Made in China.” Like many others, US fashion designer Nanette Lepore said she is shocked
that the uniform manufacturing was outsourced.

It embarrassing is what it is. I know everyone likes to joke about American made, unions, or anything USA alarmist.
The fact is, people from America are being sent to china to train people to take their jobs. From tool and die, to dental devices, ect ect.
When no one in America is building anything, how will you buy it with your minimum wage job.
Worse yet, when USA can't pay back china, and they place an embargo against us, you won't be able to buy practically anything here.
Keep buying made in china clothes, shoes, tools, building materials, cars from overseas, and we will be the next Russia, Mexico, take your pick of any half azz 3rd world country.

Some of us have been singing that song for over twenty years & ignored, sd72. Now yours is the lone voice in the wilderness because it is probably too late.

Where our Olympic uniforms are made may be indicative of our current state but is the LEAST of our problems.

I think all Americans should stand up together and force American companies to no longer do business with China untill they open up and clean up their human rights abuses.

Who's with me!?

Got to be willing to stop shopping at WalMart or Target

Get a million Americans to buy $10 less Made in wherever crap each week and spend a little bit more for Made in USA instead and that is a start

Who cares,,,

The Olympics have sucked since the 70s...
The last good summer Olympics were in 1976.
They don't even televise the boxing much now.

I may watch now a bit in hopes to see a beaver shot during the gymnastics...

I would think Rick would love the fact that the uniforms have been made in a communist country.

Nanette was only shocked because she was ducking the copyright fee she would have had to pay Le HockeyDad Inc if she was outraged.

WGAF. We probably aren't talking more than about a million or two dollars of privately raised and donated money.

Really? Think about that, with all the small struggling businesses here. That would have been a BIG contract.

Anyone consider this may be intentional? Pour fuel on the fire of shipping jobs to china while Bain is in the news?

The travesty here is that it was likely not a malicious attack on American manufacturers, but simply par for the course.
As part owner of a manufacturing company, I see this all the time.

Things are changing, but it will take time.
The exposure that this is getting might actually do some good.

another thing...
The illegals that work in our Sweat Shops would steal the Berets and sell them to gang members...

So, China was the only solution,,,

To my thinking the design of the uniforms is bigger problem. Buying from China is just giving back to the disadvantaged, the democrats should be happy. This non-issue is a godsend to them to keep our minds off the crappy economy.

Agree with Robert, WGAF! I haven't watched the Olympics er, Polympics for a long time.

Rather give it all to the poor actually. Would be cool to see a bunch of homeless people wearing polo ponies.

You get the choice of "short or long sleeve" too... and they customize it with a machete while you're wearing it.
