I would argue that's an "old wives tale" as well (the idea that emotions are a liberal thing).
Hell, one of the studies I posted earlier in this thread correlated conservatives with lower activity in the areas able to control emotions.
Both sides like to promote this old wives tale (because both sides are idiots and are trying to pander to their respective groups) .... conservatives try to tell themselves (and people they are trying to court as potential conservatives) that they're the thinkers, the ones basing their decisions on facts and not on emotions, in order to attract others who WANT to self-identify that way. Liberals do the same thing, saying they're trying to save the environment, help people blah blah, also to try to attract voters who self-identify as dirty hippies.
Actual REALITY is much different than how the two groups self identify.
