LIMA, Peru (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is taking responsibility for security at the U.S. consulate in Libya where an attack by extremists last month killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

Pushing back against Republican criticism of the Obama administration for its handling of the situation, Clinton said Monday in Lima, Peru, that security at all of America's diplomatic missions abroad is her job, not that of the White House.

With only weeks before the presidential election, the outrage has crystallized around Vice President Joe Biden for claiming in last week's debate with Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan that "we weren't told" about requests for extra security at the consulate where assailants killed the Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

Congressional hearings revealed that the State Department was aware of, and rejected, several requests for increased security in Benghazi. Spokesmen for both the State Department and the White House took pains Friday to make clear that Biden's "we" referred to the White House, where such requests would not go.

There are three separate investigations into the attack going on now: an FBI probe into the deaths of the four Americans, an independent inquiry by a panel appointed by Clinton and the congressional hearings. Ambassador Chris Stevens was among the four killed in the attack, which came on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington.

In television interviews, Clinton said she is responsible for State Department security. She told Fox News that "the decisions about security are made by security professionals."

"I take responsibility," she told CNN. "I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people all over the world (at) 275 posts. The president and the vice president wouldn't be knowledgeable about specific decisions that are made by security professionals. They're the ones who weigh all of the threats and the risks and the needs and make a considered decision."

Bloomberg News reported Sunday that Ambassador Stevens' father said he believes his son's death is being investigated adequately and that it would be "abhorrent to make this into a campaign issue."

Bureau of Diplomatic Security- check out Wiki on this. Interesting.

Gotta wonder what Hillary's credibility with the public is? My guess is it is still pretty good. Certainly higher than Obama's and very likely higher than Romney's.

This could play out in so many different ways. Obama needs a game plan right now. Hillary will pull a mea culpa, but won't throw herself on to a sword. Obama needs her and Bill if he is to win the election. If he loses the election, the plan will be to protect Hillary and the Clinton name.

YOU would vote for her after this debacle?

NOT ME!...she's dead. Because they like to eat at the trough they'll keep their noses in it till the voters say no more.

Loved the "stand by your man" comment! So true in so many levels! She does too!

Let's check what we know...

It was a YouTube video that started this riot...no? Well how many people did they trot in front of cameras and say that??Think

Then they reversed that. And reversed it again!

We went from a riot to a "spontaneous demonstration" to a terrorist attack.

Then we find out the ambassador went into his safe room and was smoked out...dead and then raped. Dragged through the streets and tossed off at a hospital. God only knows what happened to the other 3 dead Americans.

BUT WAIT...there's MORE!

Then we find out that they asked for MORE security there and were DENIED!

Nevermind this tidbit...

"In a May 3, 2012, email, the State Department denied a request by a group of Special Forces assigned to protect the U.S. embassy in Libya to continue their use of a DC- 3 airplane for security operations throughout the country.

The subject line of the email, on which slain Ambassador Chris Stevens was copied, read: “Termination of Tripoli DC-3 Support.”

Four days later, on May 7, the State Department authorized the U.S. embassy in Vienna to purchase a $108,000 electric vehicle charging station for the embassy motor pool’s new Chevrolet Volts. The purchase was a part of the State Department’s “Energy Efficiency Sweep of Europe” initiative, which included hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on green program expenditures at various U.S. Embassies.

In fact, at a May 10 gala held at the U.S. embassy in Vienna, the ambassador showcased his new Volts and other green investments as part of the U.S. government’s commitment to “climate change solutions.”

The event posting on the embassy website read: “Celebrating the Greening of the Embassy.”

While the embassy in Vienna was going green, the consulate in Benghazi was getting bombed, and little was done to stop it."

The FBI spent 12 hours on the ground investigating the ENTIRE matter that's a whole 11 and a half more hours than they actually spent looking for JFK's assassin!

And if it just doesn't stink to high hell like a massive coverup...they force a CAMPAIGN MANAGER to go on a major network on Sunday AM and spew THIS!.....htttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOMQqrBj90s

Did I mention the part where Hillary wanted us to wait until AFTER the election to investigate this? Because these things...well, "take time"!

Would be VERY hesitant right now to vote for her. However, I do think she would be the better choice over both B and R had the Libya Disaster not occurred. Gonna have to wait to see how this shakes out, but it doesn't look good for her.

The real question, however, is how many Cruise Missiles will be launched before the election?

Don’t Buy Hilary Clinton’s Mea Culpa on Benghazi

We have known from the first hours after the Benghazi assault that the Obama administration misled Americans. It was obvious in the initial press accounts, and information released during the Congressional hearing last week only further highlighted the administration’s brazen falsehoods.

But now Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has openly claimed responsibility for the debacle in Libya—a month after the fact and just in time to run interference for Obama’s critical second debate performance.

Don’t buy this mea culpa for a second.

Clinton’s admission, while technically true (she is in fact responsible for the security of U.S. Diplomats) smacks of the same craven political manipulations and obfuscations that plagued Obama’s handling of the Benghazi tragedy from day one.

That Secretary Clinton would emerge with this now tells us a lot about just how deeply Benghazi cuts at the Obama administration’s foreign policy, and the lengths to which they will go to delay, defer, and deflect this issue.

Why would Clinton wait until now? Then again, why was Ambassador Rice on television weeks ago, spouting nonsense to the American people? Why did Obama blame a YouTube video for a complex terrorist assault?

These are questions for which “politics” offer the only logical explanations.

Of course, Clinton knows she won’t be held to account in any real way for her latest admission, but her partisan purpose is clear. Benghazi was certain to be the tip-of-the-spear for Romney’s foreign policy criticism against Obama today, and this is an obvious effort to blunt that attack.

While Romney has correctly hammered at the gross negligence of the Obama administration in protecting our consulate in Benghazi, there is a much broader point Romney can hit—one that goes to the heart of Obama’s national security record.

Romney can explain to the American people that the Benghazi debacle displays Obama’s naive, politically driven approach to foreign policy that underestimated the resolve of our jihadist enemies and put political optics above security.

Killing Bin Laden and “liberating” Libya were supposed to be Obama’s one-two punch, his commander in chief high points. To achieve the second goal, it appears the Obama administration wanted to portray normalcy in the post-Qaddafi state, and limit the presence of U.S. security personnel there. Why else would our diplomats’ calls for additional security on the ground in Libya go unheeded?

As a result, a U.S. facility in a war zone was not just attacked—it was overrun– and American diplomatic officers were killed. This is a stark repudiation of Team Obama’s signature “leading from behind” strategy. They thought they could achieve democratization of an Arab autocracy on the cheap, and they were wrong.

Benghazi also forced the recognition of what Libya has become: A failed state in the making.

The photos of our burned-out consulate and murdered ambassador exposed the underlying anarchy in Libya for all to see. Our security posture there was a terrible miscalculation, one that disregarded the hard lessons of U.S. policy in the Middle East over the past 10 years.

Yes, humanitarian intervention in Libya toppled Qaddafi and almost certainly prevented a massive bloodletting in Benghazi in 2011. But today Islamist militias roam free in a region with deep terrorist roots. Huge quantities of arms and explosives were pilfered. Eliminating a dictator was just the beginning. And Libya has a rough future ahead.

Compare it to other U.S. interventions. The Taliban was routed. Saddam was hanged. But a stable, sovereign democracy in either Iraq or Afghanistan remains a precarious proposition, despite the heroic efforts of over 2 million U.S. military personnel over the course of a decade. Today, Libya bears eerie similarities to the disorder in Iraq circa 2003—but we don’t have 150,000 U.S. troops on the ground to pull it back from the abyss should things go terribly wrong.

Americans should consider all of this as President Obama tries to hold up his national security decision-making as a key reason for his reelection.

And if all else fails for President Obama as we head into the second presidential debate, he has one more excuse to pile on. Instead of “blame Bush,” he offers an even less gallant variation: blame Hilary.

This sounds more like if she doesn't take blame for this...they'll blame her harder!
