Have a cousin that is retired from the Air Force and is a die hard Reagan conservative. Not sure if I like him cause he's family or if he makes me think outside of my comfort zone in regards to politics. (Sorry for a serious answer on a political thread)

Idiots are everywhere. Their politics are a small factor.

^ That's true. I don't base my opinions on people just on their politics alone. In fact, it was always funny to some that my politics were much more conservative than that of my shorter haired/clea- shaven friends while in college. Oh, and I tried a buzz cut for the heck of it & everybody thought I was in the military... and the military wasn't as popular as it is now...d'oh! So much for the Left's, don't judge a book by its cover.

Took me years to realize that some of my left wing friends were actually brighter than I & may have actually had a valid point now and then.Blushing

I think the "End Game" is what disgusts me with the current left. I can handle basic greed. Though the entrenched Rs are the same to me.

Book smart and street smart arent the same, some of the dumbest people I've met were college graduates.

^ Hey, handsome hamie, I genuinely don't fully understand people on either side of the political aisle anymore.

The folks on the left are characterized as petuli-stinkin, multicultural nihilists w/o a sense of logic, history & who rely on the touchy- feely ways which may or may not be proven while the right is epitomized by closet simplistic Klansmen pushing a rock hard, mythical white agenda void of genuine compassion & blissfully ignorant of ANY fine print or gray area.

Oh, and handsome hamie (not you TW) yes, some of the most stupid-educated I've ever met are arrogant doctors who don't really understand how the body works and bully lawyers who are Lords of semantics. Both are placed on pedestals & worshiped by folks who are intimidated by hanging framed diplomas & don't know any better.

No, I didn't say I didn't like them. Just ambivalent (kinda like you and Pat). How both sides are perceived by most is not terribly accurate. Didn't you read my hyperbole above? Maybe not. (trombone music here)

I like a good debate. Hard to find around here, because of what DMV said on another thread. Critical Thinking skills are all but out the window. Just having common sense and a willing to follow up on a set of expectations has got me into a decent job; and I know you guys will vouch for me not being all that smart.

What hurts the most are the dumb, blowhard Conservatives. Similar to hating ignorant white people more than the rest, I expect better from them. But I don't often see it here.

Romney does something stupid. Reaction- "OH YA, BUT O-BA-MA did __________."

Romney sees a 17 trillion dollar whole and decides to fill it by digging another 7 trillion deeper. "OH YA, BUT THE ECONOMY WILL GET BETTER, EN SO?! No, you Phukctard; you are just deeper in debt.

YAH-DER-HAY..... BUT THE TAX CUTS DA BUSINESSMEN GET TURNS INTO JOBS, RIGHT EDMUND! Sure. Those tax cuts for the top 3% and the bank bailouts sure have stoked this white-hot economic turn around.

-Unemployment is way down.
-Everybody that wants a job has one.
-Healthcare costs are down.

YEAH BUT OBAMA AIN'T FROM HERE! He represents his constituents; 17 million of them aren't here legally either. Thankfully we have a budget surplus to hand out free food and inexpensive healthcare.

Yet 95% of you guys are going to vote for one extremist or the other.

To answer Bloody's question, the answer is YES..... because there are only about four people here that share my political standing. I'd have to get along with you Wing-nuts (left and right) or I wouldn't have anyone to talk to!

He who hears in the vast silence
He who wafts on the red wind "in extremis"
He who steals pearls from the ashes
He who leaps across the precipice
"Ride si sapis" 'Ave atque vale'
I shall rise again Bardo of the flesh
So feast on me
All my bones are laughing
As you're dancing on my grave
'Ave atque vale'

LOL! Dead Flowers- what a great Stones' song.

8Track, I can relate but the two major things I worry about is our failing economy (prayer/religion & the flag I can handle privately) and some sort of treaties that are waiting to be ratified by Obama with the UN after he's re-elected.

These words are sledgehammers
That pound the iron heart
Of truth
Of sin
Vandalizing
My wet dream is drying up......
Bloody smiling
Where's my rainbow?
Where's my halo?

We have a large circle of friends. Some we see regularly; others on an irregular basis at various parties. Most happen to be Republicans. A few, however, are lefties and make no secret about that. Occasional facebook debates aside, politics rarely come between us. When it does, it is polite discourse and the subject gets moved before it gets stupid. No one is changing anyone's mind. Rather talk about good food, wine, cigars, our kids, our work.

Now my closest friend, who I have known since 5th grade, is as far left of center (union worker) as I am to the right. We hunt and fish together. Work on cars together. I consider him a brother after 45 years of hanging together. We virtually never discuss politics.

My little brother is also a leftie. But I still love him. I dropped him on his head when he was an infant, so I have to own up to the damage.

My brother is uninformed righty but my good friend is a well informed lefty.
I like to listen to them both, interesting to say the least. I had dinner with my friend Friday night, man was he worked up as there was a well informed conservative investment banker at the table. Wine and fireworks.
Me? I'm right of center, who is moderately informed.
Don't care to debate it, don't care to argue over my confessed ignorance but I'm happy with where I am and how I am voting.
I have voted both parties since 72 so you can't assume where my vote goes this year.

not me. we would be screwed if either extreme became unanimous,or had a "benevolent dictator", or eliminated opposing views. We exist FOR opposing views. As many opinions as I have, I don't want to actually ever get all I wish for. That would be as destructive as losing every time.

Hey! How'd you get away with placing Libertarians in the middle/normal range between two extreme factions?

I have a hard time having political converstaions/discussions with others as I feel that I am constantly getting screwed over by our government. I'm white, male, under 40, and own a small business. The "left" feels as though I'm the priveldged one, but I feel like I get screwed at every turn. The amount of taxes and regulations that I am bound by are overwhelming and Obama has done nothing to help. The cost of Obamacare is crippling but try to tell that to Joe Liberal on the street who wants their free healthcare.

I employ people, I create jobs (not the government), I risk my own credit and fight to make a living but people (typically liberals) automatically assume that since I own a business that it's easy. They get a paycheck, go home, forget about work, have no worries.

Risk should = reward, not risk = being taxed to death.
