I have been campaigning at my local Early Voting poll for a county judicial candidate and for three state supreme court justices- once and sometimes twice a day- for an hour or two at a time. Earlier this week, I planted about 25-30 signs there. We have been checking on them a couple times per day to make certain they haven't been destroyed or stolen. I like the people campaigning there no matter who they support or what they believe- and there have been some great discussions between campaigners with opposing views. Two judicial candidates running against each other were even standing next to each other with their campaign signs, chatting away.

But yesterday at another very busy poll, a friend found most of our planted signs laying in a ditch. Someone also took a few of them and used duct tape to change the message to stand for the opposite point of view. An elderly woman and man people were holding the altered signs up in front of the the poll's parking lot. I am told they were either arrested or trespass warned. Probably the latter.

This morning, I took my daughter down to that poll for a good civics lesson. The tension between the 40-50 people waiving and planting signs was incredible. The 2-3 hour line to vote wrapped around the building and in to a field. There was a lady standing out there with a small megaphone and a presidential candidate's sign. People were agitated by her simply being there while they were just peacefully waiting in line to vote. After some very unfortunate name calling and an argument, the sheriff arrived. The woman was escorted away while people were videoing and taking pictures of how it went down. One idiot was trying to rile up the crowd in favor of the lady- right in front of the cops. He quickly left the area too after the sheriff's spoke to him. Wish I could have been there to listen. Both my daughter and I had "bad vibes" so we got out of there after about an hour.

Nothing else to do now that Early Voting is over. I have about 50-75 more signs to put up, but I am waiting until tomorrow evening or Monday to plant them around the area where I live and at my precinct so that they don't disappear or get trashed.

Can't wait until Tuesday night when this will all be over!

The only thing that matters (in my mind) is that you were satisfied completing the process.

Yes actually.

We have alot of big govt. spenders locally that will probably be thrown out on their asses. First time I ever voted AGAINST G Walden (R) as the SOB supported NDAA and the bailouts (he will get re-elected).

Local ballot measures for more spending.....we're at 17% unemployment and the majority of jobs suck. I know lets spend a few million on a pool! Oh wait didn't we have TWO that we let go to pot?

Lots of fiscal stupidity here Robert. Social stuff I know is always going to be disputed but fiscal sanity shouldn't be an issue. We also have non-indian gaming on the ballot & pot legalization. I personally detest pot but voted for it.

We actually had a judge (incumbent) running ads! I voted against him as all the good ol' boys on city council support him.

I have alot of hope in Oregon as more folks wake up to local control and local food security.

I have seen a few county court judge ads here from one candidate. They are so limited in what they are allowed to say while campaigning that they basically can just smile, get their families and spouse in to the picture and hope that name recognition drives up their votes. Pathetic.

We have a career politician termed out of the state legislature who is running unopposed for county board. Can't stand him. So, I wrote in something like: "Anybody who isn't a drunk like Lee Constantine". Felt pretty damn good about it too.

Ours here were endorsements by local politicians not the judges (radio ads not t.v.)

I HAVE A REFERENDUM ON THE BALLOT . i HAVE OBTAINED 2.1 MILLION DOLLARES IN gRANT MONEYS FOR TOWN REVITALIZATION. Amazngly some selfish greedy people have fought it tooth and nail.. it's brutal and i expect the referendum will lose because there has been a conspiracy to stop press releases on the true nature of the projaect,, I am rather disgusted with the citizens who care only about themselves and not at all about their children. The Grants would pay every cent but the ballot question does not reflect this at all,I have been a Councilman here for 10 years and have no desire to continue to represent people i think so little of but i am trying to the end to get this passed fo the future generations ,,

PS : i am looking at a Property in Orlando in December as i have had it with Pennsylvania. or some years now,,.

How did supporters who accomplished the grant lose control of the ballot language? And, in all seriousness, how much momey have those in opposition spent in hard money and time defeating your referendum? We live in a world where very few voters are truly educated and instead make decisions based on soundbites and both pundit and party controls. I am far more heavily involved than just putting up signs and standing out there, so I empathize with your knowing in your heart that you are doing the right thing, but not feeling like you a have a real good chance of winning. maybe you will get a surprise vicory. But, no good deed will go unpunished. In this present day socio-political environment, they will turn on you next. BTW, great real estate deals in Central Florida, particularly so if you don't have to make a spontaneous purchase.

This doesn't pass the smell test. If you got the grant money why need referendum? Sounds like some big-government Republican scam!

How do the write in votes get read by the scanner? How would Bob Smith vs Robert Smith both be assured of counting?

I don't ever recall seeing a final vote count that included all of the names people wrote in. It would be interesting and likely entertaining.

Don't know. Presumably by human view and hand tally. Maybe the scanner reads something on a line and tabulates it. Then, if the number of write-ins is significant enough, they count those ballots by hand. Or, no write ins are ever read. Who knows. I just hoped it would make someone chuckle...

I will but feel i should wait till after the election to quote it but it is along the lines " Should our town be willing incur a debt of upto 360000 (20%) use as a match to accept a Federal grant of up to 1.8 Million dollars to built a Multi use thruway in our Apple Tree Alley cooridor". The fact is we would not accept the grant if we even had to spend 20000. , But i have a commitment from the DCNR for a Grant to pay the complete match. Then of course the people who have been iillegally using some of this property as extra space for there home and business have been all over the question a a ploy to defeat the project. When i wrote an article for our Borough newsletter to explain it the Bough manager called the Council President and they yanked without notice to me and i am on the commitee who writes the Newsletter. When i submitted a similar our local Newspaper they wrote me after there weekly came out stating the went to print early because of bad weather and could not get it inserted until after the election. We did have 3 Public meetings :where another Councilman opposed to the project becuase he doesn't care much about theses things did his best to undermine me . I do have the support of The Council of Churches, County Commissiners State Reps, Chamber of Commerce , Appalachian Trail Coservatory and many other groups but unless they vote it really doesn;t matter. Our Solictor says a referendum could not have just asked if you were in favor without attaching a monetary amount to the question. She used to be the City Planner for Charkestom SC and i think she knows her stuff. I was not in favor of a refferendum at all because at the time it was decided: at the request of the Council President: i did not have enough time to line up all the possible funding sources,,

We have looked at doing this project several times and actually spent over 45000 on the conceptual plan in 2004-2005l

I personally feel this was a conspiracy to kill it once and for all..

Just finished up checking signs at both the precincts I am covering. Must have put up close to 50 more signs along the way nearby. Tomorrow, I will spend time at my precinct or the other one, which ever is busier. First thing in the morning, lunchtime and late afternoon/early evening is when the crowds will be the greatest. Gonna just sit there in a lawn char with a cold bottle of water at my feet, a nice cigar in my hand and a coupe of signs in the other! Who could ask for anything more?
