While the right-wing nutjobs in this forum rend their garments and rip at their hair, I thought I'd sit back and ponder this election a bit.

Like the election 4 years ago, the Republicans have pushed the whole "family values" (code for christian rule) so hard that it has to have alienated a number of voters. But it isn't like Obama isn't religious, and he's certainly tried playing the god card a few times.

So why is it that romney, and the republicans are so frightening to "moderates" (and yes, the concept of strongly religious people dictating the policy of a country IS frightening when it isn't your religion)? I still don't know why it is that Obama gets a pass (even from me) when he goes off mentioning god, but it sets my nerves on edge when a republican politician does it. Possibly not a logical response.

But that got me thinking about my work, and about my coworkers, I mean president of the USA is a job right? I go to work every day and I've only on rare occasions had co-workers feel the need to mention their god, or any god. And it has NEVER been required in the course of work. When we discuss the commissioning plan, or validation activities for some pharma processes, no one says "well, god willing, we can succeed" or "I'm going to validate this the way god would want it validated" or any other bs like that.

I don't know why the political candidates feel like they need to invoke some god in everything they do in their job.

^ I think you've illustrated my point nicely.

I put a post up saying "Hey, R's have this nasty religion habit, but I recognize the D's do too... Why does it have to be this way?" I'm basically saying "My next vote is for sale to the first damn candidate who can do his job without having to praise some god"... and you jump in with baby killing.

Now, I'm all for a good baby killing. Probably should have a national day for baby killing, you know... to be efficient. But what the hell does efficient baby killing have to do with religion?

Vic,
If you think the GOP ran on "familiy values" as their major issue, then you're dumber than your post implies.

TG, the GOP's message is always tangled up with family values. Just like the Dem's message always gets tangled up with "Climate change".

The question (and i think you're actually the one that posed it originally) is essentially "Why is it the R's are the ones painted as the "god" party when both parties constantly use "god" in their message?"

I have no more a guarantee that obama won't try to turn this into a christian sharia law than romney, yet the public perception is otherwise.

Mind like a steel trap, like myself, but I prefer to play Kuntry Dumb,

actually Vic has some good points, they just get "all boogered up" with his feelings.

Akin's "concession speach" was priceless last night.

At least most of the R party ran away from him (until the end when some came back out of desperation)

Really? point out an instance. It's a simple question. I'm asking about public perception, and the habit both parties have of leaning on a religion. What about that is "feelings"?

Victor,
While the separation of church and state is fundamental and important to us as Americans, recognize that common religious beliefs are always going to be part of the mix. If the President did not acknowledge a deity, many would find it unforgivably offensive.

Why? Well, if you want to see the scientific reasons for it, then check out Ernest Becker; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Denial_of_Death

Was supposed to be! I started out that way...a certain teacher kept rapping my knuckles with a ruler yelling "Hand of the Devil!!!" everytime I picked up a crayon or pencil! Been a righty since 1st grade the hard way! Kindergarten sucked!

Vic hasn't made any valid points. He comes in with some touchy-feely smarmy nobody gives a crap stuff and talks up like he's informative when he's pulling an "Adroomi on Math" kinda garbled up vomit. Everything from militant homosexual agendas to global warming. Non-issues that guys named Chad and Bruce talk about over their iced coffee latte grandes. Never going to change a mind or shed a scintilla of thought...hell, the guy has had to undergo several name changes because he's been banned...only a matter of time before he goes off the deep end again and we'll have to plod with posts from Victor909 or whatever!

Yezzir, I expected as much, LOL.

I still write and many other things left-handed, but I throw and bat righty, as my 10 year older than I brother bought me a right handed glove, when I would take it off and throw the ball back with my left hand, he would nail me with a football, .........change your ways quick, I can do most things with either hand.

As fer Vic, I was having fun provoking, then it got boring, and yes, I'm quite aware of his history/tendencies,

but I would still meet up and share stories, and cigars if I were ever in his area, I'm an equal opportunity maniac, hehe

Thinking OF you? Hardly. I derive much laughter at the stuff you post. You do an average 3rd grade assignment and make sure to sop it up with your tears for us to see. Thanks! There's forums all over the world that try the touchy feely sobby stuff, PLEASE don't go off the deep end and get banned from here again!
