This is my angling-obsessed 12 year old son hauling in a giant squid on a recent fishing trip. Among he, my brother, and myself, we landed at least 100 of these "suckers" in one evening. The most surreal experience of my life! Within five minutes of hitting the first group, everyone on the boat was soaking wet. Giant squid act like a huge Super Soaker as they're brought out of the water, blasting everything in sight. And yes, they're supposed to be delicious. I prefer using them as bait, since most of the fish population also find them irresistable.

If that's the case, I'd be wearing a trashbag too!

Gerber,Giant squid fishing.UNBELEIVABLE!!!Is that not almost the most fun you've had in a while or what?If you guys ever get a chance,it is hilarious to watch the whole boat going fuggin crazy all at once for hours.Mikey and I caught 60 or so between the two of us and it dosen't matter, rain coat no rain coat, you are fuggin soaked from head to toe... and stink,oh man!!!We walked in the house and Mary hearded us into the garage to strip down before she would let us even take showers.Good eats! I cleaned ten of them for myself and brought a whole 54-60 qt cooler full of whole ones into work the next day the Hispanic guys and the Asians went crazy for the stuff, they all call me El Pescador now...LOL

I got conned into going night fishing once while stationed in the Philippines. We caught coolers full of squid but I had to throw away everything I was wearing when we got back to shore. At first it was OK but after a couple hours of being sprayed with water and ink I was pretty sick of it all.

You guys are so right! This is indeed the messiest type of fishing you can do. In addition to getting soaking wet, I got nailed right in the side of the head with a big shot of ink. Yuck! My son still proudly wears his totally ink-stained shirt when he fishes. Just like JJ said, when you first hit the squid, though, and everyone is pulling them in, with water spraying everywhere and everything, it is one of the most bizarre, yet funny, things I've ever experienced. My brother and I couldn't stop laughing for the first ten minutes. It was utter pandemonium, like something out of a Three Stooges short. After sitting out there for a few hours soaking wet, though, yes it gets old. The boat caught so many, that after a while, people were playing games with them, pulling them out of the water and using them to spray their friends in the face. Unbelievable! I was never so glad I went on a trip, yet so glad to get back home.

Where do I get a "Squid" license in Wisconsin? Can one catch squid while ice fishing?
