"People say we're not fighting for oil. Of course we are," said the Republican Senator from Nebraska Chuck Hagel to law students of Catholic University last September. "They talk about America's national interest. What the hell do you think they're talking about? We're not there for figs." Circa 2007

IMHO we were "there" mostly for OTHER folks' (Europe, Japan...) access to oil.
Then when Dubya promised to compensate the taxpayer for the 50 billion/yr war effort in Iraq with Iraq's oil revenues, he (and Iraq) later conveniently got amnesia and Iraq bid out the refinery/processing services to the highest bidder.

Think

Wonder if Kuwait lost our phone number after we liberated them & they became our instant "best friends"? Haven't heard nor gotten any support from them in a while...

Think

I'd also like to thank the military industrial complex (and their investors) for their service to themselves.

Sad but true. We all owe them...a guaranteed revenue stream and the lives of our young if that's what it takes to protect that sacred revenue stream.

With few exceptions, I believe that the following is true of all wars;

Wars are always fought over possessions (land, oil, control of the labor).
Those who fight the wars are not the ones who benefit most from them.
Both sides believe God is on their side.
Someone always gets rich off of the war.

Now we have enough oil and gas in North America to forget the Middle East.
Let's do it!

Actually, we could remove most of our foreign aid, and military bases, and save
a bundle more. Let the world pay for their own defense. Why should the USA?

That's ok, lil' feller. You must have had some of the brown acid. Just don't stare at the white light & keep walking...

Think of this thread as the proverbial infected boil that needs periodic lancing but never completely heals.

I'm telling your mother you didn't use the first person objective case pronoun, "me", as the object of the preposition "for".

I've heard it said that the only reason for the war is that the Arabs decided to live on top of our oil . . . .
