More people on food stamps, but when my boyfriend fell down the stairs and had to have emergency back surgery and the bill was over $110,000 welfare wouldn't help us since he makes more then $200 a month. What a system!

Maybe you should've lobbied for Partner rights. Sarcasm

Why would welfare help to pay a medical bill?

Yes the system is FUBAR. fog

He had no job or insurance at the time of the accident. The place he worked at closed down 2 months before it happened. The hospital filled out the paper work for him to try and get the welfare medical insurance, but he didn't get it

Thank you, Jamie. I needed that laugh.

On a serious note, it is a shame that your boyfriend fell and got hurt. However, self reliance is something to be proud of. I hope the hospital will work with him.

Now to the original point - how do you expect the dems to keep the people voting for them? They're giving them free stuff, man!

When you ROB from Peter to pay Paul... you'll always have Paul's vote.

So, you're assuming that allichaparra is female? Just because he/she has a boyfriend doesn't mean anything in today's world. Could be one of Victor's friends. :-"

Left leg and bottom foot have a lot of numbness and pain. They called it Cauda Equina Syndrome. The doctors said nerves are very unforgiving and that after 6 months to a year there will not be much more healing. It's been a little more then a year since this happened. All doctors are on payment plan.

Lifes too short not to have a little fun and laugh at yourself.

I had nerve damage in my lower leg (16 penny nailgun safety failure) I had very little feeling on the right half of my right foot for three years.

Still can't feel one thumb from severing the nerve sheath.
Had significant nerve damage to my lower leg from a back injury, combined with muscle atrophy. But that healed when the back healed.

Don't know where you live, but here in Florida income of all household members is considered. If he lived alone and that was his earnings per month, he would have qualified for Medicaid right away. Might have also qualified for county aid. Hospital would write most of as a charitable write off. Can't imagine it is too different in any state because some or all medicaid money comes from the federal government.

Try again in person at the Medicaid and county medical office(s). get a case or social worker assigned or involved.

Social security Disability requires inability to work for one year. Benefits, when awarded, date back to the date the disability began (date of accident). Six months thereafter, Medicare coverage kicks in. here in Florida, medicaid takes care of the first six month's retroactive to SSD award date and is retroactive for bills incurred six months back. none of these benefits should be for longer than your boyfriend will need them, unless he is permanently totally disabled, in which case, the federal government may retrain him to perform a job within medical restrictions/abilities. Best of luck to him and you!

You "doubt"? That's nice. Then don't complain here. The audience won't be sympathetic on this one (other than your boyfriends unfortunate mishap).

Both Robert.

Safety gaurd didn't stop the nail gun from firing (it's supposed be depressed to allow firing) AND I didn't keep it in front of me. 16 penny nail shot into my leg at 120 psi went all the way in and right between the two bones.

Sorry about that Z.

After reading some of the above post felt I should share a little story....

I swear some of the rules and regulations that this country has as who is entitled to social security disability or social security supplemental income (SSI) makes no sense at all. My wife and I found this out the hard way a long time ago the hard way. My wife, before she married me lived with her parents and was receiving SSI, because she is disabled. She was born with cerebral palsy and can't walk at all, so she's wheelchair bound. Well eventually we got married and we were not aware that I had to report my income at all. Some time passed and eventually she was told to come in and that I needed to bring in proof of any income that I was receiving. Now mind you I was working barely above minimum wage at the time. Well long story short they ended up billing us around $9,000. We learned that if she had stayed living with her parents, her parents income would not affect her SSI payments whatsoever, but it would affect it if she was married. I kept my cool but got pissed off when we were told that we would of been better off just living together and not gotten married at all, even suggested we could divorce as a way to go around this rule. Took me a while but finally paid it off, and we are still married 14 years later, and have two great kids.
