Nancy Pelosi Booed, Heckled Over Edward Snowden, NSA Comments At Netroots Nation 2013

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) drew vocal backlash Saturday for her answers to questions about National Security Agency data surveillance and whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Speaking at a gathering of progressive activists at Netroots Nation, Pelosi weighed in on recent controversy over domestic spying, claiming it was unfair to label this President George W. Bush's "fourth term." She argued that Democrats had brought increased oversight to the NSA programs by giving Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Courts -- or FISA courts -- a role in the process.

As she spoke about the need to "balance" privacy and security, a man stood and yelled, "it's not a balance, it makes us less safe." The man continued to decry "secret courts," and staffers began to escort him from the room.

Pelosi said it was fine for him to stay, but the man was eventually ejected. On the way out, some members of the audience began to shout at the staffers to "leave him alone."

The conversation then shifted to Snowden, who on Friday was charged with espionage over his leaking of classified documents to media outlets.

Pelosi said that Snowden "did violate the law in terms of releasing those documents," a remark that elicited boos and yells throughout the ballroom. One man screamed, "You suck!"

Earlier this month, Pelosi said she thought Snowden should be prosecuted for his role in the leaks.

I dislike this women a lot, but Why do I picture you to be an ANGRY old man who hates anything liberals do or say.

I'm sorry, but your generation is what got this country where it is today. Why should the younger generations allow y'all to fix the mess you got us in.

I'd say 40-50s.

I am a strong believer that the Baby Boomers are the ones who got us into this mess and need to step aside and allow us to fix this mess. Though it wont happen. I just pray it doesn't get worse.

Question IS....where'd you come up with this " belief" ?? and WHO is US? The real problem lies within the elected officials who say what the people need to hear, then once elected....do as they please.

so was 50

Should i kill my self or just happily step aside and watch you make the same mistakes i have seen 3 or 4 times already?

Quit drinking the Kool Aid

All that Sugar will kill you

What got us into this mess is Free Spending Liberals

They spent the money and put it on Your Credit Card

I protested and fought for the future

And you turn your back on me and follow the real villian

Geeze, so I'm to blame for everything even tho I've worked hard, employed a lot of people and invested in my local community to make it better. I won't even get into the taxes I've paid as a business owner.

Okay, so let's do some quick basic mathematics: Taps blames Baby Boomers and George W ( who I'm NO fan of either) . And has gained all of his enlightenment over the course of 27 yrs of being alive.
So now the basic mathematics.....when GWB took office in the year 2000 Taps would have been what 14-15 yrs old? And yet he apparently has sage like wisdom and knowledge when it comes to what's wrong....who's responsible and how to fix it. Got it!! fog

Taps, Jack is right. You can't blame this mess on just one party or generation. Are we going to blame blacks & latinos for Obama's election & re-election?
Er, ok, disregard that.
We've been electing self-serving yesmen/women for a looooong time. Anyone with a fresh independent outlook can never get elected to a major office.

The fact is, we've had almost 16 years of the Bush- Obama "presidency". 17 trillion in debt by these two morons which enriched foreign countries, banks, military vendors, and a few road/bridge contractors. But don't worry, things will get better once Hillary gets her meaty hooks into our country in 2016. We should be firmly entrenched in Syria by then or at war with Iran. Get ready to see more photo ops with amputees.

In all seriousness, live it up now. I don't see anything ahead except much hardship and bloodshed.

It's not that hard to see the writing on the wall. The hard part is how to fix it. When you got a party that feels there way is the only way nothing will be accomplished.

One Voice is all it takes and should have taken. Baby Boomers have had this label for 50+ years. So in those 50 so called years, How did they not see the writing on the wall.

Now politicians want to talk E-commerce and Internet Sales. If anything this made a level playing field for consumers. We can sit here and talk small business this and that, but that is not the problem here.

This is just another way for government to spend more and more.

I may be young, but I am open to opinions and conversation. I don't know everything, but I do have a good mindset and belief on what I feel is wrong with this country.

Well for one thing, we've had binge spending on our credit card since ****** Nixon. So you can't just blame Boomers. Each generation seems to learn less than the previous one from prior mistakes. IMHO, this has culminated in the current clueless crop, Tap, which seems even more concerned with silly pc ideas intertwined with victimhood (quotas, gay marriage, all religions are the same, hate crimes vs love crimes?, children's & illegals "rights", etc.) instead of substantive ones such as lowering the debt/taxes, guarding the borders, promoting free enterprise, freedom of religion w/o pointing fingers, and promoting basic human values (honesty, respect, loyalty, & work ethic) for which this country was alway in the forefront- or so we thought...

But having said that, yes, I think that my generation (Baby Boomers) has helped degenerate our country even faster in the last 40 years.

Taps, nothing personal, because I really do like you. But, YOUR Generation is going to fix things? The same generation that voted overwhelmingly for Obama twice? The same generation that supports all the PC bull crap and run away government spending and regulation? THAT generation is going to fix everything? Sheesh dude, are you serious?

Just so you understand where I'm coming from. I've been a Libertarian since '96 (much longer then you've even been able to vote). We've been trying to fix things for many, many years, but the masses keep voting for more of the same. Maybe your generation will be the one that finally wakes the he11 up, but right now, I don't see it.

Sadly,
I think the entitlement generation is going to hurt this country more. Maybe I am still too Novice/Young to realize I should be ok with being *&%# in the ass repeatedly. Why should my generation not be allowed to fix and better Our future? I can't really talk to my father because he is a stubborn Liberal. So I am being sincere when I am asking you to give your opinion.

The United States imperial empire is going bankrupt. For some time it has not been able to survive without massive debt. Debt taken on to build roads, infrastructure, schools, airports and things that move the economy can be good debt. The USA takes on debt to make welfare payments and pay interest on debt. The USA borrows money for basic operating expenses. The USA borrows money to fight wars in distant lands, not to provide for the common defense of the states but for the common defense of the world.

All politicians at the Federal level know that the Federal debt is too large to even be repaid. A simple test is to look at how much money would be needed to just balance the budget and how drastically your personal income taxes would have to rise. Now imagine how much more your taxes would rise if we paid 500 billion a year for 34 years to pay off the debt. Then imagine what the economy would look like when 10% of the business and personal spending vanish as that money is taken through taxes to pay off the debt. That is the face of austerity.

The politician's goal is to not have this happen on their watch, enjoy some really good dinner parties, and government-paid travel.

I voted for Bush in 04. This was my 1st time voting, I went with my gut and really didn't know better. It was like being fed to the wolves as neither candidates appealed to me. I just felt Kerry was no way in hell going to get us out of the mess we were in at the time and BUSH deserved the opportunity to right the ship. After I voted for the first time, I was a little overwhelmed. I felt I had did my obligation, but I voted really with not knowing what each politician really stood for. I have tried to put Party sides to the side since this election and get as much information I could in order to see who benefits myself the most.

Fast Forward 2008

I voted for McCain in the GOP run off. Once he brought Ms. Alaska on board I jumped off that ship. The GOP needs to appeal to the younger generations, which they really haven't done. (Here is the Biggest lesson I learned) I ended up voting for Obama as I felt I could trust him. Sadly I learned the HARD way no politician can be trusted.

2012

I literally went into this election hoping for change (Anxious ). Romney to me just was not the answer. It all boiled down to I gave Bush that 2nd chance, why not see if Obama will come back on his promises.(Lesser of 2 Evils approach) I truly did not trust Romney. This past election & seeing the divide in the GOP left me questioning where my allegiance was. This is why I call myself an Independent Conservative.

I am not here to belittle ones views or party. I am listening Jack!

What you say makes perfect sense, Taps.

I've voted straight Republican up until Bush junior's 2nd term when I yanked the lever for Kerry more out of protest to Bush's lies and ineptitude than anything else. Didn't have the stomach to vote for McLame and chattermouth & thus sat it out until I voted Romney/Ryan. Unfortunately, it appears that most continued to sit it out. Not my favorites but I felt Obama/Biden would do irreparable harm- which they have.

Don't worry about it now. We could vote for "Mr./Mrs. Perfect" now and it would still be too late IMHO. We're too far down that road...
Just work hard, love family, & keep the faith.

Ni calvo ni con tres pelucas (let's not go overboard here)
No need to blame just the GOP. In my lifetime, the Democrat party has been the majority more often and have done there share of harm if not more.

As I stated above, the younger folks have always had a refreshingly naive outlook but that's not how the real world works.
The major parties put out candidates for their likeability factor with most voters- not necessarily for their principles or practical ingenuity.

Just work hard, love family, & keep the faith.

Exactly right. This nation is so far in debt, there's no recovery possible without taking drastic steps. And neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are willing to do anything but make speeches blaming one another, previous administrations, the wealthy, the poor, and the boogey man.

Look at the financial hole we are in so far. Total US unfunded liabilities are $123,939,000,000,000 and change.

http://www.usadebtclock.com/

Then, like a hand grenade with the pin pulled, there's the complex and totally unregulated derivatives market floating around the world's financial markets. There's something like $12 quadrillion funny money dollars in notational value there, with $12 trillion dollars in cash value waiting to go up in smoke.

http://americablog.com/2013/03/the-worldwide-derivatives-market-could-be-over-1-2-quadrillion-in-notional-value.html

In addition to work hard, love family, and keep the faith...you might want to also keep your powder dry.
