About to fire up my first bowl of Granger. Won in the flurry of drunk underbids 12 oz for $7 of 100% Burley goodness. Hope it's not stupidly bland or I'll be hoping to catch Joe Lankford at my next Seattle Pipe Club meeting to crash. But he warned me learning to blend was the hardest thing he ever did.

It has been years since I got to hang out at the local tobacconist, but Mixing was not so hard. Smell the blend and smell a dozen more and say to yourself, I like this one, but it would be nice to have "whatever" in it. My favorite was Staghorn with Honey Clover in it. Staghorn was campfire smokey, and honey clover was black and sweet. The two complimented each other.

Don't let em scare you. A quarter ounce of this, a half ounce of that. Don't blend a lot of anything till you get it right, then blend several ounces or pounds. With the high price of tobacco, smaller test batches are better. My Tobacconist had 3x5 file cards that he kept special blends on. I have a diary of my cigars and blends and from which source.

Relax and enjoy.fog

I heard CVS has decided to not sell tobacco and and stuff..
Deeply discounting everything,
So, I went by CVS Sunday and bought a nice DR Graybow pipe for $8.00. The sticker price was $23.99.

quite a while ago, around the first of the year, I got demolished by Ron, Jamie, and Dave W. simply because I expressed an interest in trying pipe baccy. I never posted my experiences as I wanted to give each sample a try and thought warmer weather would allow me to get it done. I am not yet at the point that I feel I know what I am talking about, but can say now that I have enjoyed 98.2% of them.

Going forward, I think Fall may be the best time of year for me to pick up the pace and will start to post as I revisit the amazing array of gifts these gents dropped on me.

A few things I will say is that I have found pipe tobacco milder yet more flavorful than cigars, the actual smoking experience requires more focus which leads to distancing me from daily stress better than cigars do (and they do, too), and there is a much wider selection of flavors from which to choose.

I apologize to the 3 Pirates for dallying in posting, you guys did me a tremendous favor introducing me to so many selections.

I thanked you then, but now I am really thanking you.

smoked the DR Graybow last night. I really enjoyed it. It smoked cool and smooth. I imagine it will be even better after it seasons up. The first briar I have smoked. I liked it much better than a cobb( which i liked just fine).

2380- Sutliff County Cork. Used a Graybow.

First time ever smoking a pipe and really enjoyed. Our cigar and pipe club got them to send us samples so what a great time to start. My dad gave me his pipes so can't be free.

2382 SuperValue Cherry Cavendish. yeah, I know, but gifted by a friend who smokes it by the jumbo bag. I'm gifting him better pipe baccy.

Footnote: Gonna hit the Seattle Pipe Club meeting Wednesday while up in WA. Gonna enjoy much better baccy that night, and hopefully talk with Joe L. again.

With the good folks of the Seattle Pipe Club tonight:

2390 - 100% Maryland
2391 - Dunhill Light Flake in the new to me estate bent billard I basically stole from a club member selling pipes tonight
2392 - SPC Mississippi River (Hey, it's their party, why not?)

If you are ever in Seattle/Tacoma area on the second Wednesday night, "crash" their meeting. Good folks!

2405 Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Bob's Chocolate Flake. Can't say I'm putting it in rotation, but it wasn't bad.

2406 Davidoff Flake Medallion in a briar. Damn this stuff is good. Even if I have the time for a cigar I still find myself lighting my pipe. This is the only tobacco I've found so far that I prefer over any cigar I've had before. Apples/oranges and all that, but I get as much pleasure from a bowl of this as a premium cigar.

Love the DFM myself.Have you tried St James Flake or Escudo?I smoke all 3 and can never decide which one I prefer over the other.

Escudo and Dunhill Deluxe Navy rolls are a must try too Dan.

2407~ Wessex red Virginia flake, rest has done this tin well and these flakes need a dry time. Very tasty.

I'll have to give em a try. Just put in my September tobacco order. Trying to limit/budget to once a month. Got some Davidoff Flake Medallion, PS Bullseye flake, and 4 tins of Bells 3 Nuns on the way.

I've found that I can't tolerate even a slight bit of latakia in my blends. The Bob's Chocolate Flake I posted earlier as being not bad, well.... compared to what I like to smoke, it was absolutely foul. But, it wasn't bad compared to heavy Latakia blends I've tried before. The flavors I get from Latakia blends are straight up stale cigarettes and that's about it.

Nope. Of everything I've tried, there's been maybe 6 blends I've marked for repeat.

2408 Dunhill Royal Yacht. Tasty but a bit of a bite, possibly too wet. Haven't been at this long enough to figure out those details.

Have yet to successfully complete a bowl in a briar. Usually end up with a puddle in the bottom. Love my cobs though.
