Massachusetts court hears Pledge of Allegiance challenge
Published September 04, 2013

Associated Press

A lawyer for an atheist family has asked Massachusetts' highest court to ban the practice of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in state public schools.

In arguments before the Supreme Judicial Court on Wednesday, a lawyer for the Acton family argued that the words "under God" in the pledge discriminate against atheist students.

The lawyer argues that the reference defines patriotism as someone who believes in God.

Lawyers for the school district and another family who want to keep the Pledge of Allegiance in schools say reciting it is voluntary and students can leave out the reference to God or choose not to participate.

Last year, a state judge found that the rights of the atheists were not violated by the words "under God."

The family appealed the ruling.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and guess that this grievously offended atheist family votes straight Democrat.

Unless of course, there's a write-in Socialist or Marxist candidate on the ticket.

wheel,

It was added to defend against those commies.

Honestly the whole pledge is creepy and should be eliminated. Free societies should not have a loyalty oath. Public officials should recite pledges to their constituents.

At least we did away with the Bellamy salute.

You are free to not say the Pledge of Allegiance if you so choose. If you elect not to, you're not going disappear in the middle of the night or anything draconian like that. That's how it works in free societies like this one.

In fact, under the current administration, refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance and getting some cheap publicity about it would probably get you a presidential commendation of some sort and an invite to dinner at the White House.

If they did it probably went something like this:

Aku Ikrar kesetiaan kepada bendera Raya Indonesia, dan Republik yang berdiri, satu bangsa di bawah Allah, terpisahkan, dengan kebebasan dan keadilan untuk tidak ada yang.

Personally, I don't see why those two words are in the pledge to begin with. But I don't think that's a reason to withdraw its recitation in school. And yes, I live in Massachusetts.

No one should have to say the pledge and it was written by a socialist.

Ironic that every piece of currency states "In God We Trust" and no one is screaming discrimination, refusing it when handed to them, or forcing a design change.

One million thanks and may peace be unto you and all your cattle. May ten thousand fish jump into your rowboat and filet themselves in honor of your mustache.

But since when is Managua in Indonesia? Think

Yea they did, it just sounded like this:

I pledge;

My loyalty to the president and the Republic of Kenya

My devotion to the words of our national anthem,

My life and strength in the service of our republic

In the living spirit embodied in our national motto,

Harambee,

And perpetuated in the Nyayo Philosopy of Peace Love and Unity.
