I've been thinking a lot about this lately. I'm a Reagan Republican. Maybe folks in here are right and I'm not today's Republican. I can live with that.
Reagan opened up the tent and invited people in. It allowed the Republicans to go beyond being a party winning isolated elections and to actually govern in the majority. To do so involves comprimise. In order to get the majority of your ideas through (when you are in the majority) you need to allow some things through you disagree with (throw a few bones to the minority). As the minority you need to strive to become the majority so you can do the same. For either side to insist they get everything they want or they will burn the place down is silly.
Comprimise now is suicide in the party. I honestly beleive Reagan would be considered a RINO today by the pin headed vocal minority in the party that are indeed calling the shots. It is a big step back from Reagan and probably will take the party back to a marginal fraction that can do nothing but obstruct out of any real ability to garner majority....... I'm sad about that becaus ethe Dems are not an option.... buncha freaks.
The good part is these things are short lived (could be years but still short). These types of actions will marginalize them and they will effectively become a joke. It is not sustainable. The Republican party found that out prior to Reagan and they just need to learn it again. *sigh*
At least it was more fun being in the bad ass party that never really had a chance to govern. You could make wild proclamations and through verbal hand grenades without any real chance of doing harm since you had no chance of governing. You can always be right when you are bitchin about the folks that actually hold power.
