Department of Justice shuts down government Amber alert system

'The Obama administration and the Democrats have been working to force the Republicans to cave into their demands and as a result, Obama’s Justice Department, led by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, decided to make it hurt even more that if a child goes missing, don’t count on the Amber Alert support system to notify the public.

The Washington Examiner reported on Sunday that the Amber alert support system, the national missing-child warning program, has been offline because of the government shutdown.

In viewing the Justice Department amber-alert website, visitors are greeted with, “Due to the lapse in federal funding, this Office of Justice Programs website is unavailable”.

Ashe Schow of the Washington Examiner said, “So, union members could return to work, but the website to alert Americans to missing children had to be taken down?”

Interestingly enough, the Washington Examiner on Saturday reported that only 17% of the federal government is shutdown, which would beg the question as to why a safety system such as the Amber Alert system is down.'

I don't give a dam who anyone supports or what side they believe to be the correct choice, garbage like this story causes irrepairable damage even after proven false. Why not claim Libs are more likely to be child molesters too? Invoking the emotional impact of missing children for political advantage is despicable.

Unless one is committed to widening the gap or simply a supporter of anarchy (in either case it would make sense), one should show a bit of resposibility prior to broadcasting misinformation, especially misinformation as important as kidnapped children alerts. This holds true for both/all sides involved as no side owns dirty tricks.

I agree with the over all tone of your comment Frank, however it is / was widely known that the Majority of Americans wanted NOTHING to do with Obamacare.....but you would NOT have known that by listening to Jay Carney or any other puppet in this Admin or the Government OWNED media......

The Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs has asked the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to serve in a clearinghouse capacity for the AMBER Alert program and to aid in the dissemination of AMBER Alert information. Information on active AMBER Alerts is available on NCMEC's web site.




There is also a link to the NCMEC active amber alert list.

I don't condone either side's use of these tactics. Win the argument on merit, not by casting your opponent as filth through misinformation.

when I clicked the link it said Amber Alert is not affected by the shutdown.

Even if I was to the right of the Ayatollah, I'd not trust a site like examiner for help for my cause after reading this. Much better info is available from right leaning sources than that. I've learned more from some well spoken posters here, I've been challenged to rethink things I took for granted, I've changed...a little. But only because the great debate is alive here, but not in D.C.

But stooping to calling political opponents child haters, claiming they don't care about cancer patients (what, dems are pro-cancer?), all to sway public opinion...I need a shower after reading that. Cancel my subscription.

Even if it is true that Americans do not want Obamacare, was this a proper means to get rid of it?

Let me ask a better question.....was this the proper way to implement it? And yes I think it IS appropriate to NOT FUND a bill that NO ONE read before simply handing over the outrageous funding for it. Then to disclude themselves from it after FINALLY reading it...is just disgusting and typical. Besides you and I both know this administration is doing EVERYTHING it can to make this as UGLY as they can. Their behavior is juvenile at best
