I've been smoking cigars on and off for close to 30 years now. I really liked the Cuesta Rey 8-9-8 Maduros back in the early 90's, but something changed since then, and the last one I had was a big disappointment. Always liked the Onyx Mini Belicosos, and Maduros in general. I guess it's true - that we prefer our cigars like we prefer our beers.... light and smooth, or dark and agressive, with a few "in-betweeners".
I do like the Perdomo 10th Anniv Champagne and MOW Virtue for my lighter smokes, and like the MOW Ruination and Camacho 1962 Pre Embargo for my heavier fare. I prefer Belicoso and Robusto sizes.

As I stock up my humidors (always easier to do so in the winter when I work a lot of OT), I was wondering what everyone would recommend that I age in there - what are your preferred smokes, without regard to price?
Honest opinions are always appreciated. Applause

Ashton VSG's
Fuente Queen B's & 858 maduro - affordable and great
Oliva Serie V or the V Melanio maduro if price doesn't matter much
Hate to be vague here, but any high end Don Pepin blended stick (Padilla, Tatuaje, and on and on)
Joya de Nicaragua, both dark corojo or the 1970 series are awesome value (3 to 5 dollar) sticks for me

It's funny........a lot of people say the VSG's don't age well and they are better without the age. My experience is completely the opposite. I have had boxes with 2 or 3 years of age on them and plume throughout the box. They were exquisite.

Some of the notable aged cigars I have experienced are the Tat Havana VI Nobles. I have just a small handful left from '06 and they are so good that they don't even taste like the same cigar when I first got them. They have aged and changed much like the cuban RASS does. Completely different smoke after 4 or 5 years.

Others that have aged well IMHO:

LG Small Batch
Many other Tats (and them some just don't ever get any better)
Oliva maddies
Opus (wasn't much of a fan until I had one that had some years beyond what they claim to age them)
Many cubans (but not all)
CAO America's (2 years + and they are excellent instead of just ok)

I love the Headley Grange line but they are new enough that I couldn't comment on how they age. If I had to guess......I would say smoke'um now. If you haven't had one, you ought to try one. They hit a grand slam homer with this stick IMO.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm going to need to look some of them up in the Abbreviations section of the forum.
So far, every list includes Tats. I've been planning on adding some brown rings to the box, so that gives me a little more confidence in my personal "likes" list.

My favorite Cuban is the Monte #2 (so consistent and well made). I admit to getting spoiled in the BVI a few years back - and really miss walking into a shop and grabbing some Havanas.

Keep 'em coming!
Thanks!

I don't know about favorites, but I like to keep the cooler with a few staples.

Tat 7th capa
Tat fausto
Tat PCR
AF WOAM or the signature maduro.
PAM 26.

There's 20 or 30 more, but I could get by on those for awhile.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your input!
Tats and AFs are definitely on the short list, and a few other premiums that I've been considering as well.
Time to make up another order....

Good luck on your hunt. There are so many good sticks out there. Finding your own style is the largest part of the fun.

Okay, personal top 5 regular production:
1) H Upmann #2 (Mag 46 is good too)
2) Trinidad Reyes
3) Bolivar Coronas Gigantes
4) Tat black label petit lancero
5) LP T-52 Robusto

I've really been loving the cc H Upmanns. Note that Peter Johnson has recommended people smoke the black labels immediately, and Steve Saka used to say the same thing about his LPs, so I would skip those if you just wanted to age something. Tat brown label Noellas seem to age really well, along with the tat verocu line. The original Illusione line seems to age well too. Litto Gomez Diez are another favorite of mine that age well, they can be a pain to find sometimes though.

I'm sure they were. I'll have to remember to pick some up the next time I'm at the aged habanos store Tongue

But in all seriousness, the principe is the only one I hear much praise for, and huge praise at that. Next to nothing about the other sizes. Just seems odd that you have a marca that only works in one size Think

Going back to post #1, I remember smoking Cuesta Rey's thirty years or so ago that were quite good. The ones I smoked in the last few years were just barely OK. If I had the room, I might just buy a box of El Rey Del Mundo's (maduro) and put them away to age. The last one I smoked had 3 years and some plume and it was superb.
