I really am surprised during this tragic era of American government there are few if any protest songs. The truth needs to be told every way possible.

The music scene has changed so dramatically since the 60s that protest songs have become extinct. We live in a pay to play era.

Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence.
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie..... Whistle Whistle

I guess none of you listen(ed) to Rage Against the Machine or N.W.A. There's plenty of protest songs out there but I doubt that most here like that "kind" of music.

The music industry doesn't see any money in it so they are marginalized or just not marketed (i.e. pushed on the radio) by the big record labels. Kids today would rather listen to pop stars sing about their T&A or getting their sexy back.

Just finished watching the PBS Masters series on Phil Ochs (available to Roku users, and probably online too). The best protest singer ever.
