GOP: Obama Tanks Economy to Distract from Scandals

(2014-06-25) — Just hours after the Commerce Department revised economic growth figures for the first quarter of 2014 dramatically downward, a spokesman for Republicans in Congress said President Obama is “tanking the economy to distract from Benghazi, IRS, NSA and other scandals which threaten to bring down his presidency.”

The U.S. economy reportedly shrank 2.9 percent from January to March this year, according to the new numbers from Commerce, but a GOP lawmaker immediately questioned the reliability of the data.

“I’ll believe the economy is in its worst shape in five years when I see the original emails from the Commerce Secretary to the president,” the unnamed Republican lawmaker said. “Now, the left-wing media will be chattering about the pathetic, moribund economy instead of what we Republicans have been talking about for several years. The timing of this is just a little too convenient, if you ask me.”

The unnamed lawmaker emphasized that he’s not a “conspiracy nut.”

However, he added, “Why do you think they released this horrible economic news in the midst of public uproar about the V.A. scandal, the IRS losing emails and Obamacare — not to mention the president being caught on camera reaching over the sneeze shield at Chipotle?”

A White House spokesman rejected the allegations, noting that, “The president learned about the lousy economy on the news, just like most Americans — or at least like the ones who didn’t already know about it because of losing a job, or losing their insurance, or having their adult son run up from the basement to tell them what he just saw on Twitter.”

Learned from new reports again?

Are Dem supporters really this dumb to continually believe this pathological liar?

I hate to say it, as I am a proud American, but the intellectually challenged Obama Administration would not be able to pull that off and make it actually work. If they did, I would applaud them for their first major success.

I think Rule #196 should be if someone is quoted saying they're "not a conspiracy nut"... that it's likely they're a trying to foster an unsubstantiated conspiracy.

Labeling and ostracizing are tactics employed by people whom have poor arguments.

Nah.
Just not worth even arguing that.
The entire article is based on the idea that the administration TIMED the release of a QUARTERLY report to distract from immediate scandals.

Yeah.

Those quarterly reports... they probably had it ready back in Feb... waited until now to release it.

Tanking the economy on purpose? Call me gullible, but I seriously doubt any sitting president would sabotage our economy for political gain.

Bring down his presidency? Really? He's out in less than 2 years and can't run again. WTF is wrong with our political machine? This is really the best we can do?

We're f***ed. The more I think about it, the more I may cash in my chips at 50 and move to another country. Permanently.

I'm right behind you.

Seriously. The Rep's have turned politicking into a bigger joke than it was back in the 80s/90s... That leaves us with a 1 party system....

We're going to get a democrat president in 2016. Because the republicans are acting like idiots.
This is going to cause even more apoplexy in the republican party and even more outrageous claims.
So we get another democrat in 2020.
Cycle repeats.

A single party system (EITHER PARTY) is not good for the country.

I find it quite shocking what President Obama (i.e. The Benghazi Four-Dead-Americans-Scandal) was willing to do in order to keep the campaign narrative going, that he knew and now all know, wasn't true.

But to tank the economy on purpose? I agree with you. Well, at least not tank it on purpose anyway but that's another story of the failed Obama Administration.

There was a video on the internet that caused outrage and people didn't go to the mall and shop during the quarter.

Well that does it!!! I'm never eating at Chipolte again! Was Moochelle picking food out with her paws too instead of using the tongs?

It's been the POS's agenda since Day 1 to destroy this Country from within and throughout the World economy. Look at his history, his mentors, his priest, and the staff he appointed. Bill Ayers is one of his mentors & buddies.

People with unsubstantiated conspiracy theories are more likely to not want to have their quotes on those subjects attributed to them.

The person that made that video should be held in jail for single-handedly causing this disastrous economy I tell you!
